Thumbs down starts and dies 4 or 5 times before finally staying running

I'm not quite sure whats up, but ever since I put the new S5 Jspec motor in my rx7, whenever I try and start it, it dies. its like this - start... die; start... die; start...die; start.........die; start....almost....die; start.....ok. does that make sense?
it doesn't matter if I adjust the throttle at all, or anything.

I have absolutely no idea what to check for. I've never come across a problem like this.

well, using the gas pedal doesn't help at all. thanks for that search word. I'm thinking maybe the coolant temp sensor? because also, at idle, it runs lean enough that the A/F ratio won't even register on my gauge.

the thing is, since I did the S5 swap, I had to use the S5 temp sensor since the S5 sensor isn't supposed to be able to bolt in. is that the problem? or should that sensor work, but its just bad?

Is it possible your J-spec has the TB mod?

Try this. The next time go jumper the fuel pump check connector prior to starting the car. Then start the car. Now the question is to you: When you did this, did the car start up and stay started or did it do what you described in your post?
