my '88 RX-7 is an automatic. When i start the car the period seems a bit long. i am not sure it just might be how it is suppsosed to be like. I turn the key and about 3-4 second it fires up, and it usually rev's high then the rpms drop and the car dies. That happens only on cold starts.
