starting problems

ok so some times when i try to start the car it just clicks. i know your going to say the siliond (cant spell) but i think its something else cause i can get out of the car put it in gear push it about 9 inches and get in and it will start right up... ant help is appericated. thanks.

It sounds like either:

A) Ignition switch. When you bump the key a few times does it fire up? Mine has this problem. It's really just a nuisance.

B) Bad starter/solenoid.


I've had both of these problems and they have the same symptoms.

well the key is striped out..../ but i never thought about bumping the switch..... ill do that when i get in the car later if i have the problem..... i dont belive it is the starter it is new.... the switch is best idea thats probally why the PO installed a push button start. thanks..

I had that symptom years ago. Was the brushes in the starter itself worn to a nub. I could take a hammer..........reach under the car and bang the starter.......get back in and start up. After too many times doing that I took the sucker apart and the carbon brushes were hardly even there. Done did wore out.

I could also do what your doing. Put it in fifth gear and push it fwd a couple of feet and then start it. Hard to do in parallel parking though.

Um...corrosion on the battery terminals. A possibility also.
