Lightbulb Starting problems

I have an 86 RX7; the car was running fine. A couple of weeks ago the car overheated & I pulled over and found a busted heater hose. I installed a new hose, added coolant and started the engine. The engine started without problems & I kept driving the car. The next day, the car would not start. The engine cranks and attempts to start but does not. The engine has new spark plugs, plug wires, and fuel filter.

Any suggestions or ideas on how to fix the problem would be appreciated.

Sounds like the timing is off.

Might be flooding.

This link also tells you how to check for fuel and spark:

^Thanks for the advice. I tried it and I got the engine started but it ran for about 3 to 4 minutes at 3500 RPM and then it dies. Then, when I tried to start it back up, it will start, but it will die quickly. It looks like it's starving for fuel. I checked the fuel system pressure with a gauge and it is good and the fuel pump is also working fine. Cranking is eating up my battery more quickly than I think it should. Any more advice would greatly be appreciated.

Does it try to catch at all (maybe sputter) when you are cranking?

Are the compression pulses even or unequal while cranking?

The starter gear noise gets louder with each compression & quieter between compressions.
A strong even steady rrRrrRrrRrrRrrRrrRrr is what you want.
If the pulses are uneven rrRrrrrrrrRrrRrrrrrrrrRrrRrr wou may have a bad apex or side seal.
If the engine spins faster than normal with weak pulses & fuel smell - you're flooded.

When I had trouble starting, the pulses were strong & even, but it sputtered on one rotor for a few seconds before the other one started firing. Then it made a white steam cloud out the back. - That was a bad coolant seal. (Bar's leak is like majic Pixie dust for that one)
