starting problem, fuel or compression?

ok so I havent sent my injectors off to be cleaned yet.
I have been working on the car for the past couple days and I finally got some new o-rings for the secondary injectors.

turns out one was missing complety and the other had a gouge in it.

so now the secondaries no longer leak fuel.

I still dont think there working though.

I can get the car to start after playing around with it for a while.

it will almost sound like its running but its the starter driving it along, then it will finally slowely gain rpm's and run normal.

my 1st gen does this in cold weather, after I throw a couple revs it starts reving normal again and doesnt sound like its running on one rotor any more.

this car will do the same, but when its all heated up and running normal the gas is responsive until I hit around 3,500 rpm, which is where the secondaries should come in.

theres just nothing, this is sitting in park not driving, it will barely climb to 7,000 and will start to shake after 4,000

does anyone know if the secondaries will cause this much damage? i.e. the car shaking from 4,000 - 7,000 when I throw a hard rev at it in park?

or does it sound like I also have compression issues since its a pain in the *** to start?

thanks

at the very least I would pull out the multi-meter and start testing the wiring for your secondaries. Even if you have low compression, it still seems like it is being starved of fuel in the higher revs. Wiggle the connectors around a bit too make sure they are on tight.

does it give you any check engine lights? What year/engine? mods?

no mods,

1989 mazda gtu, 13b of course.

yes I do get a check engine, but some times if i shut off the engine it will go out, or if i throw a hard rev at it the light will go out,

plus it doesnt always come on.

ok well heres the latest update.

I got the car running, and drove it around the block a couple of times.

then I left it sitting for a couple days.

today I went out to read my engine codes.

it turns out there was only 1, o2 sensor

figures since it was spliced in two diferent positions.

so i put in a new piece of wire "silver wire" and soldered the connections.

i think it took care of the check engine and o2 sensor problem,

i'm gonna reaplce the o2 with a nice bosch platinum later, but for now it appears to have already been replaced recently and is in good condition.

I still have a nasty problem getting above 4k rpm
I checked the secondaries and cleaned them.
I replaced the o-rings on them and checked that there actually getting voltage above 4k and they are.

I think the problem is the 6 ports, maybe.
i really dont know to much about the 2nd gens

i noticed the rod on the 6 port actuator towards the front of the car is stuck out, to other is in but i can pull it out with my hand.

i checked for vacuum and it doesnt feel like i am getting any to the actuators.

when the actuators are actuated should the rods be extended out? or contracted in?

what can i do to free them up and possibly get them working again?

would this be the culprit to my problem?

thanks

I don't think the problem is your secondaries, a lot of people drive around with them stuck shut with out even knowing it, I was one of them. My car would rev to 7k just fine, but it wouldn't pull at all. This was my first rex, so I didn't know I was down on power.

The problem could be, clogged cats, clogged fuel filter, dirty air filter, mis adjusted TPS, and about a thousand other things.

beleive me I know,

its nice to know someone is reading this stuff.
not many replies, not quite like the 1st gen section.

so far this is what I have done since my last post.
please answer some of my q's if you can

I check the 6ports and found the one that is stuck is stuck open, better open then closed right?

I tracked the other to the solenoid where the vacuum input line is broke at the solenoid vavle, so i just plugged it directly into the 6 port line and now it is also open all the time.

I checked the vdi, I read it somewhere on the forum that it also gets stuck, its not stuck as far as I can tell, I can blow in the vacum line and it pushes on the lever.

The car now revs all the way past 7k wooohoooo

I adjusted the timing, and slightly adjusted the idle speed screw, it seems to be back on track now and the advance is working properly

I took her for a test drive and its still dog slow off the line, but once i hit around 4k it goes.

not sure how slow this car should be off the line, its an automatic, plus those 6 ports are stuck open,

how much of a diference do the 6 ports make when it comes to low end torque?

would it be an extremely noticable diference?

also if i take off with half pedal or full throttle there is absolutely no diference.
is that normal?

I still know I really need my injectors cleaned.

but I manualy cleaned the secondaries and have ran three bottles of injector cleaner through my system to help out the primaries.

I also plan to put on a straight pipe where the cat goes, just dont know how soon since theres these damn things called 6 ports i need to fix, and if i fix them and then do the exhaust they wont work again "so I've read"

any help is apreciated

On the S5's your secondaries are opened by the airpump, not the exhust back presure.

Ok heres the latest update with the best fix I can come up with.

so I rip off the entire intake manifold assembly, fix my 6 ports, I am leaving them closed all the time right now until I get a new actuator.
and I replaced my primary injectors and secondary injectors.

also tried to switch out the TB with a 100% factory set unit.

NO GO.

waste of time since I didnt put my ported setup back on at this time.

well I was trouble shooting and I knew it was gonna take some time, so I pulled everything back off and put my old ported intake manifold assembly back on.

I started to perform the un-flooding procedure on the engine.
not much luck but I did notice the plugs were getting soaked in the process of trying to start the engine.

this is when I started to really wonder about my igntion system.
I had previously switched the coils and ignitors with no avail help.

BTW all the parts I switched were off a perfectly running 89 GXL.

I even tried the wires, no luck so I put mine back on.

then I finally broke down and bought a new set of spark plugs.

The car coughed because of all the gas, then fired right up.

my plugs were less then 2 months old, and had NO drive time on them.

I guess I just got a bad set.

I bought these plugs when I first started working on the car, and it didnt want to start then either.

man what a waste of time, all because of some bad plugs.

so I guess my outcome is, try to switch the plugs.

even if they are new.
its always worked in my first gens as well

good luck to all
