That's a real nice clean looking chassis to start with...

The flywheel nut, what a PITA... the Impact turned up to 130psi zips em off in 30 seconds or so in my experience.

Also... as far as wire harness connectors go the fuel injector plugs are very common Bosch type plugs that can be found on many car.... When we did my friends engine last winter all four injector plugs broke, we got new ones from a Chrysler LHS....

you can buy brand new fuel injector style connectors online pretty easyily. they come with unterminated wires that you can splice on.

TX Update

OK, well, I have discovered that time is NOT on my side. SO! Fixing both the 86 sport and the 88 Vert simultaneously is NOT going to be a good idea.
NEW PLAN: Disassemble BOTH motors! Take both sets of irons to Rotary Performance in Garland. They will clean and check all my irons for me (saving me precious time and money) Putting rebuilt engine in the 88 Vert (which is currently tagged and inspected)

Pics to follow:
Tear down of 86 N/A motor (what you have been seeing so far...)
Removal and Tear down of 88 N/A Vert motor (what you will be seeing in a day or so)

WOOOT! Wish me luck and wow this is turning into a beast!

TX Update!! (with pics)

OK then, last time I posted the plan was to take the engines to Rotary Performance.. HOWEVER, if I brought them an assembled engine, it would be 1/2 the cost of a rebuild, so, I decided to finish tearing it down myself

Original problem: HOT START ISSUES, SWEET SMELL IN EXHAUST AND WHITE SMOKE...

Original Diagnosis: BROKEN WATER SEAL (@ UNKNOWN LOCATION...)

Status;
Water Jacket seals on the intermediate iron and 1st (front) rotor housing were INDEED bad... Upon inspection, Intermediate iron is TOAST, (see pictures of the lovely chips taken out of it at the water jacket passage at the water seal...)

This engine was apparently rebuilt recently, lots of very new things herre and there, not to mention 1.. (yep just 1) new main bolt... ROFL, what the hell?>??

ALSO: I found (get this...) a paper towel type SHOP RAG, in the water jacket passage.. WHAT THE HELL!>!>!>

HAHAH, see pics Yeah, the last pic will be of my dumb **** cheesin fo my phone camera, yeah i know the pics suck but its all i got, so deal

hey i have some questions, i recently swapped in a rebuilt motor into my car like 2weeks ago, and it doesnt want to start, we used a Atkins Master rebuild kit on the motor and have upgraded to 2mm 2 piece apex seals. but anyways my problem is that the motor cranks but wont start, when i spray starter fluid in it, it starts but just for a few seconds then turns off. i have checked all the obvious ( fuel, spark, AFM).. and forgot to mention, my friend broke a grounding screw ( this is beneath the manifold holding a ground wire down on the rear housing) and grounded it else where, do u think this could be a problem? is the rear housing grounded by this wire? please pm me asap need my car.. its my DD..

P.S. the previous motor cranked and started fine.. so i dont know why this one wont...

Wow thats the exact same spot where it failed on mine too. Good luck on the rebuild. It takes a lot of time to clean everything. Simple grean and Purple power, plus a lot of carbon scrapping.

Well, yeah, you need to fix your ground. Have you made sure you are lubricated before cranking??
put a small teaspoon worth of atf into the lower spark plug holes (yeah its tricky) and then try startup...(put the plugs back in of course...)

make sure you have a good battery(slow cranks tend to flood rotary engines)
also, rebuilt engines take time to build up good compression, so they are very hard to start... but once they are broken in you will be good to go....

GOOD luck, report back

The sleeves are the 6-port sleeves, they rotate in the outer housings to close and open the upper ports, which are opened at high rpm for power and closed at low rpm for more torque and fuel economy.
