Unhappy Starting my rebuild, trying to

So I got my rebuild last week put in. Well, the first time starting the car, we had to tow start it. It ran under its own power after driving around for about 45 minutes, and I drove it around the block. I then had to swap the turbo because mine wasn't on it, someone elses was. I broke a bolt for the water going to (or from?) the turbo on the intake manifold, but since we were just going to run the car and look for leaks (besides this one) I ran it anyway. The car started right up immediately. I had a fuel cut switch I wired in, and it started when I didn't even expect it to. So I hit the switch after it died, cranked, and it fired right up. It died again, so I cranked again, and bam it was fine and we ran for aboult half an hour. We then shut it down, I took the manifold off, and had a shop take the broken bolt out. Today I put everything back on, and the engine will not start at all. We tried using atf 3 times and it would get to about 1000 rpms and die. I am wondering if I have a vacuum leak. All my emissions are gone. This is an 88 TII. I am running premix.

Does anyone have any tips on getting these things started? If there is a vacuum leak, it would be very minor. I just want to get this thing started. I'm getting really frustrated. Thanks..

btw, I also posted this at TeamFc3s, so please don't mind

phew.... man you should talk to hailers. He is a god, but don't tell him I told you ore he would kill me!

He deals with this **** too often!

A new engine is prone to low compression but you ran it for a while.. maybe not long enough, so it might be a bit better. I would say to double check your wires! Double check your hoses!

I'm not an expert, this is my disclaimer!

Sorry I'm not much help... I am a loser! heheh

Hey, its the effort that counts. Actually, I was driving to national guard drill this morning, and Iwas thinking really hard. I had the lower intake off... so I must've facked something up. And then I remembered, The PRIMARY FUEL RAIL. I don't think I tightened it down. My uncle was over talking to me.

What also confirms this is that when I was cranking, my stock boost gauge was still at about 0, in the middle, instead of laying down. It seems like that thing would drop a bit when I cranked before. I hope thats it, anyway.

Okay, I did tighten the thing down. Dangit. I tried ATFing again, to no avail. Can anyone give me telltale signs of a vacuum leak, or another way to get this thing going?
