Starter Positive Wire Protector Boot

I installed a turbo driveline on my 7, but when I put the starter on the rubber boot that protects the positive cable from grounding to the base of the starter must have been torn and it now shorts out.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement boot, I called the local car stores and they said they don't have anything like that.

Thanks.

That "rubber" boot isn't there to insulate the terminal from the starter housing - i.e. ground.
If you're positive terminal is contacting the starter housing, you've got more serious issues!
You're supposed to be able to mount the positive terminal without the boot with no problems.

The boot is there to keep other things from hitting the positive terminal - like debris or you accidently hitting it from underneath the car.

After the swap, since the starters mount upside down from each other, there is not enough length in the wire to mount it correctly (or so it seems to me), so the boot will be the insulator.

Well, I went out and purchased a 2 gauge 1ft wire extension and made it look nice. The boot is now just a protector, though I would still like to replace it if anyone knows a source of replacement.

Thanks.

There are almost zero junkyards with 7's in them in Flint, MI. I could probably use a different car's, but putting in the extension wasn't that hard and its all done.
