Starter Issue
Starter Issue
well i bought a starter on ebay since the last owner whom i bought it from said the starter died... bought a starter on ebay... installed it, it didnt work either.. take both of them out and use the jumper cables to test the two. the one from the car works okay.. and the one on ebay just clicks... then i took them both with the battery to o reillys today. checked the battery and starters, the battery was half full and was charged up. so the batteries good now. the starter that i bought was tested first and nothing!! i was so mad, and then the moment of triumph... the one from the car was tested and it ran fine... so now i wonder.. is it wiring problems? well, i've yet to put the starter back in..
Check your voltages at the starter. You most likely have a corroded ground wire and do not have enough voltage to engage the starter.
If that is the case then run a new ground to the starter.
To Test. Use a volt meter. With the starter installed, place the positive lead to the positive on the starter. Place the ground to the Chassis of the starter. If it reads less than 12 volts you have a problem. Then place the negative lead to the transmission mount bolt. You should have over 12 volts. If you still don't then your positive wire may be corroded. Either way it is most likely a corroded wire.
I just did this about a month ago after a transmission change. Car started ok before but would not start after. Starter tested fine at Orielly's.

THANKS GUYS!! in the end i found out the problem.. yes there wasnt enought voltage going to the starter.. only because the guy i bought it from had a short wire going to the positive. at first i thought the negative wasnt grounded properly.. so i did that... and found that short wire suspiciously unnatural.. so i hooked up some extra ground wire to the short and hooked it up to the positive.. hoping that this will bring the ROTORY BEAST ALIVE without having to push start. i thought about if it didnt work, i'd probably burn all my fuses. took the chance, and went and sat in my car, turned the key and prayed it works... hear the starter cranking!! VROOMMM!! ITS ALIVE!!
