Starter Installation

Surprisingly, I couldn't locate what I wanted through search...

Basically I just put my engine back in,, and Not sure if I put the starter in right... Do I just pop it into he tranny, and tighting the two bolts? or any washers/shimms required? if so how do I know how many shims are needed? Any help would be greatful.. My starter is making clicking noises... Thanks guys...

clicking noises when trying to start or when the engine is running and you're not trying to use the starter?

When you removed the starter, any shims would have come out with it. If you didn't have any shims then, you shouldn't need any now.

Clicking sounds when trying to start usually indicates that you didn't get the wires tight enough, the starter wire may be damaged, or your battery is very low on voltage.

Just swap out the old one and pop in the new one...
This isn't no domestic engine with tolerances thrown out the door.

swap out old what and put new one in? I don't have new starter.. I'm putting my original starter back in..

It only makes wierd noises when I use the starter./.. it starts the car fine.. and it sounds like the gears hitting or something.. I took it out twice now and reinstalled it.. wires are tight and clean.. (installing starter is my least favorite part too)

I don't think it's electrical..

I had that problem when i changed my Tranny, check the connections on the starter make sure you don't have them in the wrong spot, next there should be 2 wire that are the same color and have the same connections swap those 2 wires

If it's grinding, you need a new starter.&nbsp The gears shoot out when it's engaged, and yours is not doing that properly.

If its just clicking, try the hammer method. Get under there and rap it with a hammer a couple of times and try again. Sounds like you need a new starter or starter solenoid. Sometimes whacking it firmly will result in it turning over. First you should make sure the connections are good on the starter solenoid and the large ground wire from the battery is secure. In my car its attached to the long starter bolt. Large hammer and chisel, what more does a guy need besides a woman?
