How long can you crank your engine for before your starter "goes"??

It all depends. That said, you shouldn't crank it much more than 10-15 seconds at a time, if that. How long did you crank it and what is happening with it? Its easier for us to help you if you tell us everything.

Alright, I think I cranked it for longer than I should have about three times. The starter isn't turning the engine over now. I thought maybe it needed to cool down. I didn't even think about the starter when I was doing this.
