Starter?
Ok so I ended up replacing my starter and it didn't work afterwards. This process required me to take out the trailing coil of the 2nd rotor. After cleaning the terminals of the battery from minor corrosion, the car started after a while. I tried to drive it up the hill from where I was parked and i had to put the pedal to the floor just to barely get it up the hill. After I stopped at my parking spot, I had my clutch all the way in yet the car stalled. After trying a few more times, I had to keep pushing the gas just to keep the car from stalling. I am starting to get annoyed.....what could it be now? Could anybody give a diagnosis of the problem?
alright you need to do a full check of the charging system, first stop is the battery. I doubt you have a VAT machine but you can still check the voltage (12.45-12.65) while the car is off. then check the voltage drop while starting, you just watch the voltage of the battery while somebody cranks it over. if it drops below like 10v, your battery is toast. then you need to check the output voltage of the alternator, at full charge it should be at like 18v or something around there. before you replaced the starter you shoulda cracked it open to check the components, takes like 2 minutes to just see if there is a short to ground or an open in the stator, but you changed already so hopefully the new one is still good cuz you dont want to put a new starter in a bad electrical system because the brushes arent broken in and fry easily when new. just check those basics first to see if you can find anything, i personally think its the battery.
Could it be that the battery or the alternator is the culprit for the car not running smoothly and stalling on me? I can understand that the battery could be the cause of the car not starting before but when it is started already can it make that difference in power?
So I took my car to a mechanic today and they said that my battery and alternator are running fine and the problem has nothing to do with it. Of course, they couldn't do anything about the problem as they don't specialize in RX-7's. I'm thinking it's a small fix but I have no idea where to start. I'm going to look for a rotary specialist and seee what they can do for me.
