Exclamation Start and idle issue

one day like usual i drove to work took my lunch drove back to work then at the end of the day i came out to start my 88 rx-7 SE(non turbo) and it started like usual then the rpm's came down pretty quick and the car shut off. it would still start but would not idle and had almost no power when driven. i was told by a friend that it might be an apex seal but i was told by others that it would blow out smoke if the apex seal went bad and it would not just go bad all of a sudden. PLEASE give me some input, i have good spark from both coils.Any other things i could check? All my vacumm lines are good, MAF sensor and Thermo are good as well. I know my fuel pump prims my system when in the ON position but it continues to run as if it will not hold pressure with no fuel coming from the return hose when removed. Checked my compression and on the front cylinder i have 55 psi on all bounces(which is good)but on the rear i have ZERO, no pressure at all. When checking my plugs i found oil on them and when removing the compression tester front and back give me oil as well. i guess my next step is to take my back housing off and inspect the seals, will my apex seals go bad if i remove the rotor?could it possibly just be my oil rings and do i have to replace the springs for each seal or its just wise to do so? anybody know the best place to get good replacement seals and springs for a good price? I have since removed just about all component to either replace my seals or do a motor swap, thinking about going the 350 small block way or maybe 5.0 swap. although ive never done any work on a rotory before as this is my first im leaning toward just replacing the needed seals and springs or whatever seal is bad to save money(i will NEVER get rid of this car so i need to do something)any tips would be very much appreciated.
thanks for the input.

55psi on each face of the front rotor is low compression. 0 psi on each face of the rear rotor means it is gone. Tear it down and see what needs replaced. You won't ruin anything but the soft seals, front/rear main, and water jacket o-rings by taking it apart.

If you can build a piston engine, you can build a rotary. There are just many small seals to clearance. They are no harder than setting piston ring end gap.
