Intercoolers are fine, manifolds are ok-ish, turbos and wastegates are crap.

The only good thing from ebay are the intercoolers. Everything else is crap, especially the turbos which leak like a **** and clutches. Just save up and by something of quality.

STAY AWAY from ebay/knockoff wastegates. I have personally seen a Tial 38 knockoff that was blown out of the box and leaked horribly at idle. The manifold you could get away with if you do some bracing with additional welds. Some of them are of decent quality and some are ****. The couplers and clamps you often get with the FMIC kits are pretty bad and should be replaced, and the gaskets are usually garbage on all those kits. The turbos are 50/50. I've heard horror stories but I know someone with a civic running a T3/T04E knockoff that is working ok, but he only runs it at 7psi.

Your best bet are used authentic parts rather than new knockoffs. The SSautochrome manifold is a knockoff of the HKS log manifold. So see if you can get a used one.

I've had a few Rx-7s come into our shop with that stuff. All of it has been complete junk. First car had their T4 turbo kit, turbo blew in 50 miles. 2nd car had one of their turbo manifolds which cracked, and kept on cracking in different spots. Just yesterday an 3rd gen came in with their intercooler kit, and its just terrible. There are no beads rolled into the intercooler piping, and on a 50degree day at 11psi on the stock twins intake temps from a 35C cruise rocket to 60C!! Stay away.....

alot of the problems with the turbo's are from dumb asses hooking oil feed lines directly to the turbo with no restrictor to reduce the oil pressure, the turbo should never see over 25-30psi of oil pressure, my buddy's had one on his car for 2 years now,,,,,, next time you talk to someone thats like i had an ebay turbo the oil seals blew right away, ask them if they had a restrictor on the oil feed,

but in all honesty i LOVE my garrett

The MAIN problem with those low quality ebay knock off turbo's is not only a lack of quality and control, not to mention materials used, but the LACK OF BALANCING DONE to them. 7 out of 10 of those PIECE OF **** eBay turbo's that I've PERSONALLY seen had no balancing done to them at all. There should be sections milled off of the turbine center and compressor centers for balancing. Some times manufactures mill the outter most part of the compressors/turbines, so the center is untouched and I've also seen were the back of of the wheels are milled also. But like I said, 7 out of 10 of the ones I've seen had no missing material what so ever which means NO BALANCING was done at all. That leads to premature bearing FAILURE along with seal FAILURE which is the majority case with those turbo's.

GARBAGE!!!

Buying one and having it balanced would offset the cost and it would be more cost effective to just buy a quality turbo from the get go.

Stupid suggestions like this are what keeps these shitass companies alive. These products have been proven to be garbage all over the internet and in the rotary community. I guess you never saw the pic of the compressor wheel that exploded. Same bullshit XSpower turbos you get in these kits. Stop buying from them and maybe they will eventually go out of business and the quality choices will remain. That won't ever happen if you keep telling others to try the products though.

I've got a ssauto manifold on my 2.3 turbo, and its been holding up well, but then again, rotary exhaust is much hotter, and put the thin-wall'd, poorly welded manifold through alot more. I've heard stories of cracking, but with proper rewelding, and extra support they can last, and certainly flow better than stock,

If you have a welder, and are competent, i don't see why not?

I'm going to post this just to be a jerk. I'm not a fan of eBay Chinachargers, but I do have a friend who had a China 60-1 on his 1st gen. He put around 70K on the setup, made 400 wheel HP and had no turbo failures. It also had a China manifold.

Hmm speaking of the "restriction" pill, does the s5 turbo come with one? If not, what size line would be best to go with. I'll be using an oil filter sandwich. So I don't know what pill I should get or line.

Juiceh i know its stupid lol

ive had a ebay ss mani in my s13 sr20.. lasted about 6 months.. that was daily driving with solid motor mounts and rubber exhuast hangers.. If i had welded a flex pipe into the downpipe, it might have lasted longer. But I was expecting that, as all stainless manifolds are expected to crack. You get what you pay for.

Im not backing up ssautochrome btw.. jus merely suggesting he get it and report back his experiences to the fc community since i dont recall reading anyone here having dealt with their "rx7" products
