squeaky, squealy sound around 3.5-4k

my wife's tII started making this odd sound after we replaced the oil pan gasket. when we replaced the gasket, i loosened the motor mounts and supported the engine with an engine hoist so i could remove the mounts and oil pan. after we got it back together, it started making a squealing sound, almost like a bad belt, every time the car gets to around 3.5-4k rpm. it keeps doing it above that rpm and eventually flutters away once the rpms drop. it sounds like it's coming from around the alternator/PS pump area. the PS fluid is topped off. nothing should have been affected by what we did to it.

anyone have any ideas? thanks!

Check your belts, sometimes they loosen up over time.

And I am assuming you also checked the belts for cracks and wear?

Belts are tight, and in good shape. No cracks/dryrotting/etc.

Bump, any more ideas?

check pulleys? perhaps some rubbing? i couldnt imagine it being a bearing without you noticeing...something must be slipping though..

if you still cant find it why not just for ***** and giggles try changing the belts then see what happens?

pulleys and everything look fine. belts are practically new and didn't make a peep before we messed with the gasket

If it does it without the car moving (reving in the driveway), try removing the P/S and A/C belts. You can also remove the alternator belt to rule that out, but obviously it shouldn't be run for long since the battery will drain and the fan won't spin.
