you cant...the drive shaft isnt rebuildable. you can go to a shop and have one made that does have rebuildable u joints...

 

but regardless your current shaft is one piece and does not seperate therefore the entire shaft has to be replaced if you have a bad ujoint

 

Pull your driveshaft off. Move the yokes by hand and if you feel any uneven, sloppy or play, you need to replace it. It should move freely and smooth like a bearing cause it is a bearing. If you don't replace it your asking for more trouble later. You can't rebuild it. Mazdatrix sells a replacement rebuildable driveshaft. I highly recommend. My 90 Vert is doin' great with it. If this doesn't solve your problem, start looking at your half shafts off the rear end. Same thing, freely and smooth. Good luck. Keep us posted.

 

what makes them non-rebuildable mine looks like it has clips that hold the u joint in?

 

Are these clips that attach the U joint to the rear end (these should not be clips they are U bolts) or clips holding the bearing so you can replace the U-joint bearings? If there are clips to replace the bearing then someone already replaced the driveshaft with one you can rebuild. A stock driveshaft has pressed in U-joint bearings. Non-rebuildable.

 

My autocraptic makes the same noise in reverse. Don't care one way or the other if it is a driveshaft because I'm doing a manual conversion on it. hehe

yeah it must be a rebuildable one, since it has clips on the bearings. I stillcant figure out what is making the squeeky noise on mine. Driveshaft it tight,clutch looks good, rear end it a bit loose though.

 

Well, all I can sugest is get the whole car on jackstands wheels off the ground. Start looking at everything. Check those motor mounts, tranny mounts, rearend mounts. The torque when your starting off could be rubbing off a bad mount. About your rear end being loose, check that mount, or if your talking about rear end driveshaft attachment (pinion shaft) a liitle play turning left to right is good (backlash). If it moves up and down then you should have a serious oil leak and a shot pinion bearing in the rearend. Not fun to replace. Move the tires forward and backwards and watch the half shafts. Here you will feel the backlash as well. Look for something abnormal. Any doubt lead us to that direction so we can tell you what is normal. Damn the squeaks, we will find it.
