squeaky noise while releasing clutch
Today I noticed something was squeaking while backing out of the driveway in my s4 n/a. As soon as I put it in reverse- There was a squeaky noise in the area of the tranny when the car started to move that was at the end of releasing clutch. It seems to be more loud in reverse than foward. It also does it when down shifting, Its only while releasing the clutch.(the last stages of the travel)
Can it be the release or throw out bearing?? |
Yeah, sounds like it could be the release bearing. If it starts making a droning noise, replace it, but a little bit of squeeking may not indicate a badly worn out bearing.
|
Is the sound coming from the area of the clutch pedal or the transmission/clutch? Does it squeak when depressing the pedal even with the engine off?
If the squeak is obviously eminating from the clutch pedal area, check the clutch pedal bracket for cracks or breaks. This is particularly critical if you have an aftermarket clutch. That is, take a light and look up under the dash where the clutch pedal bracket is located. Look for cracks and/or flexing of the bracket when the pedal is depressed. If you find cracks or broken parts, remove the bracket and have it repaired. |
Sorry for the bad post, but I tried to track down were the sound was coming from while other person is moving the car and it seemed that is not from the transmission area. Is in the area around the diff and drive shaft. What can it be??
|
meh, both my 88 cars always squeaked when you pushed the clutch in (car off). never had any problem with either.
80s car, what do you expect? |
the squeak is not in the pedal but out side in the area of diff and drive haft, is starts to squeak when im releasing the clutch and the car starts to move. I have tried pushing the car and nothing its only when is moving by the engine.

i have not had the chance to check under my car but does anyone if the rear
u joint (drive shaft) has a zerk fitting? |
no zerk fitting on our driveshaft. sadly our driveshaft isn't rebuildable. its full replacement only. could be a output shaft bearing. check your tranny fluid level. and does it only when your moving or does the sound show up even with the car sitting still. i would also check your diff fluid.
|
^^yes had replaced tranny and diff fluids 4 months ago, It only sounds when car is moving on engine torque, no sound when pushing or coasting the car. really loud on reverse

im pretty sure the squeaking has to be coming from the transmission area. ive noticed this happens to almost everybody who is running an ebay clutch or something equally as cheap. do u have an aftermarket clutch?
|
will see if I can post vid
|
yeah i have this problem too whenever my car just starts to move i hear squeaking from under the car coming through my shifter area (no boot) i thought it was the z driveshaft because the ujoint is bad but now i think it may be the clutch (driveshaft fix pending while at school)
|
I have the same issue, I just put in an ACT 6 puck and rb flywheel, also replaced the throwout bearing and the pilot bearing. I also put solid mounts in. This was all about a month ago.
On top of that I launched it pretty hard quite a few times lately, I think I might have broken a tranny mount. I'll have a friend listen to mine when I release the clutch. I'll let you know what I find. |
Video!!
Here is a vid, sorry for the nigh shot but it got the job done(can hear noise)
please don't flame me on the exhaust leaks I know. You can easily see when is reverse or foward and the squeaky noise is only when there is torque flow to rear wheels <embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://i287.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid287.photobucket.com/albums/ll158/driftingmyfc/squeaky.flv"> |
Yeah right on the money i have the exact same sound in my vert...
|
yours sounds "rubbery"
|
Maybe you have broken/cracked rubber differential or trailing arm bushings.
|
im not shure how these drive shafts work but that sounds just like a u joint

im not shure how these drive shafts work but that sounds just like a bad u joint
|
u need a new drive shaft
|
I bet it's a broken exhaust hanger. Probably either one of the rubber hangers above the gas tank broke or the bolt backed out of the frame or snapped off. This drops your exhaust and causes the hanger to rub on the metal heat shielding around your muffler/fuel tank area. If you check the rubber hanger and they all look good, check the 12mm bolts and make sure they are tight. If they are, blast them with spray lubricant. Ask me how I know...
|
i dont think its an exhaust hanger problem, since i have this same problem even when i had taken my exhaust off. i have a broken ujoint and mine makes this exact same sound so the driveshaft suggestion may be plausible. Its really a rotational motion related sound not a random sound. it does sound rubbery though

you caught a mouse?
|
my teacher said that I just need to replace the u joiints and don't buy the whole drive shaft
