Springs question

well, just wondering if FD springs will fit on the FC, i want some stiffer springs for a decent price and the Tanabe GF210's for the FC are ok, but the GF210's for the FD have nice rates, 295/230 instead of the like 190/160 for the FC.

thanks

They don't fit. Other than the RSR Race springs, which are too low IMHO, there are no high rate stock type replacement springs.

NO.

Why you want heavier springs for?
Heavier springs implies you have dampers than can handle the higher spring rates.
Also, heavier springs means your unsprung weight does up - this is BAD.

The name of the game is not to have the stiffest springs.
The name of the game is to run the softest / lightest springs possible without the chassis bottoming out on the bump stops or hitting the ground.

Too many times people just get too caught up on wanting the biggest spring rates...
*sigh*

haha yes, because we all know that 100lb base model springs are the ****

i'll just get the GF210's for the FC then, and how did you get that i wanted stiff springs with inadequate dampening??

i suppose you'd like to tell the circuit racers in japan that their spring rates of 12-16kg/mm is too high (im not sure if those are the rates, but i know its really high).

and coil over companies like tein, hks, etc etc dont know what their doing either i suppose, with their regular spring rates of 8kg/6kg and 9kg/7kg setups.

the GF210 springs for FC are 3kg/2.5kg and the ones for the FD are 5.4kg/4.2kg, and i'd like to have spring rates in that area, but oh well, the 3kg/2.5kg ones will work for now, 189$ shipped for the whole set isnt bad.

I've never heard of ANY FC race car running rates of 12-16kg/mm. Those rates get used on FD's, but because of the suspension geometry, the same stiffness springs on an FD will feel softer than on an FC, hence the higher rates used on FD race and track cars. About the highest rates I've heard of people using are in the range of 550 lb/in (~10kg/mm).

Stiff doesn't = fast, you want the suspension to be as compliant as possible to accept the bumps and undulations that exist on all roads and most tracks. Stiff springs enable lower ride heights for lower CG and they limit body motions to keep the alignment from changing too much as the suspension moves.

I don't know all of the variables of those cars, so I'm not at liberty to even form a conclusion.
I can hazzard a guess?
Race cars like to run very low to the ground to aid in aerodynamics.
Thus, the use of very stiff springs to keep the chassis from slamming into the ground...
Race car suspension (i.e. damper) travel don't usually go over 1" or 25mm!

They will sell whatever people are willing to buy.
It's called marketing.
Did you see yusoslo's thread on how bad his HKS Hyper-D' coilovers are banging him around in his FC in the Suspension section?

This is what most aftermarket replacement shocks can easily handle.
Start to get over that, and the springs are too stiff for most of those shocks.

What are you trying to set-up your FC to do?
What are you priorities?
You should go read the thread in the Suspension section about FD's and shock / spring combinations.
Amazingly, a lot of FD owners would be happy with just a slight spring upgrade with the stock shocks!
Something to think about...
