I was curious what the spring rates were on the stock 87 TII springs?

I am also looking into getting a cheaper set of mk1 coilovers that have an 8k front 6k rear for daily driving with some stiffer shocks. What would you recommend strut/shock wise. This is just a daily driver which i want to be able to handle a little better than stock so I am not going all out just stiffening her up a bit.

Trust / GReddy posted this a long time in their ads.
It was 2.0 kg-mm front and the same for the rear.
This is about 112 in-lb.

The 8kg F / 6kg R is too damn stuff for the street.
I run those rates, and it's bone jarring; most of the drop-in aftermarket dampers cannot control those high spring rates, except for maybe the KYB AGX's.

If you're looking for some comfort, pass on that MK1 crap - you get what you pay for.

For the price, get the KYB AGX's though - they are the best adjustable dampers for the money, period.

As for springs, go with Eibach Pro-Kit, progressive springs for comfort.
For linear rate springs, hard to beat Racing Beat springs.

Well ted that is the problem my car is to the point where it is already too low for where I am located. I am in MA and i have a body kit which lowered my car a little and with the roads and what around here I cant afford more than .5 inch drop. That is why I was looking to get coilovers so I could get stiffer suspension and lower it if i ever get it to the track.

those MK1 ebay 'kits' are NOT coilovers. they are jank-tastic ****.

i know tein has a set of coilovers that are 6kg F/4kg R. check their site. i'm pretty sure you can get new psrings with most coilovers though so you can adjust the spring rates and you can get them revalved for those spring rates.

alright I will take a look around my thing is I was looking to spend under 600 on something to stiffen up the car. I dont mind the stock ride height i just wanted something a little stiffer... what do you guys think about getting agx's with the stock springs worth it at all?

I've got the Eibach Pro-kit and Tokico blue non-adjustable shocks with 225/45/17 tires. It's pretty stiff for daily driving on an interstate with all sorts of bumps, overpasses, etc. I regret not dropping the extra money for adjustables, even though the Tokico blues were very nice when I took them to the track.

Yea see my biggest problem is ride height... I cant sacrifice any more height because of the shitty MA roads...

i guarantee the eibachs wont drop your car any more than it is now. your stock springs have sagged over .8" in the last 18 years. they might actually give you a little more clearance.

alright then I will definately look into them... the car does have only 78k original miles though

I just dont want to install them then have ot uninstall them because of too much drop... but you do have a point 18 years is a long time

plus the stiffer springs will mean the car bounces less, so less scraping

You attacking the problem the wrong way...

Adjustable coilovers are for jacking the car down.

If you want to keep the stock height, then there's no reason to go with adjustable coiliovers.

Jacking the stiffness up on the springs just ruins driveability.
It's not a common way to keep the car's ride height up.

Look at this this way...
If you're compressing the suspension enough to worry about "soft" springs, you're either driving too hard or your roads suck.
If you're driving too hard, back off.
If your roads suck, stop driving on them.

It sounds like you're trying to get a "show car" driveable on the street.
Not a good idea...

Hell, why not just "air bag" the car?

Alright thanks guys... I am not trying to create a show car at all actually I am trying to create a fun daily driver that I could track leisurely on occasion. I am just worried about dropping the car because of the absolutely horrendous roads and hills in my area. As is with my car getting into some of my friends driveways or even out of mine with a very slight incline is pretty tough...

I am just trying to find the best way to stiffen the suspension up a little and increase handling without sacrificing my car to take so much abuse.
