split air pipe blown
hi, i have a '88 gxl in great condition exept for one thing, the split air pipe has rusted through. now before i got the car, i had the previous owner put on a new cat in order for it to pass emissions. so after having it for a week or two, i heard a scraping under the car that turned out to be the split air pipe. so now for my question...now that the split air pipe is disconnected from the cat, what kind of problems am i going to have? i have noticed that she smokes more during a cold start, could this be due to the pipe? thanks for your time, Dan
p.s. notice i say more, i know that rx-7's smoke some but this is a good bit more than before i had this problem.

without fresh air going to the converter it's not going to be able to perform the full reaction it wants to (or have enough oxygen to bunr byproducts like it's supposed to).
Basically your cat will soon fail which will mean you'll either need to break it or remove it (better to remove to keep mufflers from clogging with cat).
Where is the pipe broken at? I would think most exhaust shops would have that thick silicone hose to use or coudl fix it with a weld. in most situations.
