speedometer and odometer died. ??

hey guys while i was driving on the interstate and my speedo cable came unscrewed out of my transmission. it took me a minute or so to realize what the problem was after my speedo went out, so i pulled over and saw the speedo cable hanging down all beat up from scraping against the pavement for a couple minutes at highway speeds.
anyways, i got a new speedo cable from my friend and it looks like all i need off of it is the sheath part that actually screws into the TRANS. the rest of my cable is fine and it looks like replacing the whole cable would be a bit more of a project than i would like to mess with.

can i use just the sheath off of this new speedo cable? also, if i do, how can i get the old one off and the new one off???

it was easy man. take off the surround that has the switches in it, then take out the four screws for the gauge cluster itsself.

ALSO, we replaced the whole cable and the speedo/odometer still doesnt work.... anyone?

THanks i was just not smart enought to put the release button on the connector on back of the gauge thats why the gauge pod didn't come out. But as far as your speedo goes. Are you sure that the speedo drive gear in your tranny is working? It might have broken off thats why the cable came off. YOu might try driving a short distance without the speedo to make sure the cable is spinning. Good luck with the speedo buddy!
