I found an 89 GTU for sale that I may purchase
if they accept my offer. I actually found it locally
so I dont have to go out with a trailer!

So here's my questions:

1.Did the 89 GTU have an LSD?

2.If so, what type does it have? (Clutch-type, viscous?)

3.How do you tell a GTU apart from a GTUs?
(you never know whe you might find a hidden gem!)

4.How reliable are the sunroofs on these beasts?

Anything else I should know?

 

The 89 GTU was a base model, so it doesn't have an LSD from the factory.

I can tell you that sunroofs on RX7s that are 15 years old are NOT reliable. Actually, I repaired the one on my '87 TII and it worked great until I sold it a year later. So, I guess they work OK if you keep the tracks clean and lubed. IIRC a GTUs will NOT have a sunroof.

Not impossible, but some of the GTUs models do come with sunroofs.
I'm working on one over here in Hawaii.

hey dUde!. its kOol.. i got one too.. a 90 s5 gtu.. but it came right before the year 89 went to 90.. so its listed as a 90..but really it shoulda been a 89, it came out of the factory a few months before the new years. ahha.. kinda of kOol. but yea!.. its nice.. and no it does not have a lsd.. sunroof works pretty good for a 15 year old car.. works great.. inside and outside. everything works fine. as new!. except the power side mirrors.. but its a nice sweet looking car..
