Speedometer / gauge questions

Just got myself a '87 GX and have started the tear down on it. First thing that was bothering me is the stock guages and the lack of function/reliability on them. Couple questions that I haven't been able to find answers for in the other threads.

1 - Stock speedo is off by 10-15 kms. Last car I had with this problem had a transmission swap that was off the books (found out about it much later). How hard is it to switch to digital?

2 - Anyone know of any nice, non-tacky guages Speedo and Tach. Looking for about the 3.5 inch variety. Links much appreciated.
I'm liking the looks of http://www.prosportgauges.com/prosport_gauges-green.htm but they don't make anything over 60mm which is too small for a tach / speedo in my opinion.

Thanks

why do you need to know what speed you are going? my spedometer cable broke off completely. admitably my car has been at 110K miles for the last year but uhhh yeh heh.

You have a point.. I guess if I disconnect it entirely I can save a little drag on the engine as well.

But seriously, is there not some sort of legal requirement to have a working speedo/odometer?

1. IIRC, the digital swap was discussed and it was decided that it was way too hard to be worth it.

2. The stock gauges match the car. Leave them be.
