Speedo Cable

I had to replace one on my GTUs about 5 yrs ago. Seems it was about $45- check Mazdatrix- that's where I ordered it. Worst part is getting the end thru the rubber dust boot in the firewall and you have to partly take apart the dash to install the end into the back of the speedometer, unless you have really flexible arms and fingers about 16 inches long.

It took me about 2 hours. I hate to say to take it to the Mazda dealer, since so many of their so-called mechanics are useless on RX-7s, but unless your mechanic has worked on RX-7s before, it will probably take him longer to figure out what has to be removed to get at the cable. I'd allow about $200 to get it fixed at the dealer. They may be able to give you a flat rate estimate if you ask.

its really not that hard at all for the whole thing. especially if ur little speedo puller just fell out. when that happened to me i just went to the junkyard got another and installed it in the part of the cable that was still there.

Its easy to do, i've had to replace the speedo cables on both my s1 and my s4 RX-7, getting the instrument cluster out takes about 10 mins, to get the broken end out. as long as only the inside cable has snapped just push the new cable up from the gearbox end.
