OR Spedometer

Hey, I have a 86 N/A FC. It is in great condition it only has about 60K. The only problem it has is the spedometer is 10% faster than the actual speed. The wheels aren't stock, they are really old enkei rims. and I'm not sure if they are the same size as the stock ones. Do you think this problem has to do with the car itself or is it just from the wrong wheel size? I want to see if this is a known problem or not. I don't have pictures yet, I will try and get some up soon. It's not a huge deal, it's just kind of a pain

Thanks

Tire size is not right.

What size rims you got? I will tell you what tires you need.

It should also say in the driver's door jamb what the car came with from the factory. You can extrapolate the overall height (sidewall + rim size) and use that find a matching height in a larger wheel/tire combo.

Sorry for the late reply. I checked the tire size listed on the tire and it matches the size in the door jam. It's not possible to have oversized rims on a tire is it? Any ideas?

Thanks

What is the full tire size? It could have a different speedo gear in it than stock.

The calibration for the stock speedo can be up to 5 MPH fast at 60 MPH (so it reads 65 when you are doing 60).

To fix it, you either need to change wheel/tire size, change the speedo gear in the tranny or have a speedo shop re-calibrate the speedo.

Just as a FYI, Toyota is the only manufacture I have seen that has it's speedos right on. Most including BMW and Mercedes, and Honda are typically 2 to 3 MPH off (high) at 60 MPH. For example my X5 says it is doing 63 when it is really doing 60.

Even my RX-8 is off by 2 MPH.

Oh really? Ok thanks for the help. It's something I can live with as long as there isn't a major problem haha.
