Speaker Size for Shock Tower Speakers

Hi-

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what size speakers will fit in the rear shock towers (where the original ones are). The size must be able to fit without modification (i.e making the hole bigger, etc.) Also, I believe the front speakers under the dash are 4", is this correct?

Mike

The stock size in the shock towers is 4". You can easily go up to a 6.5" speaker, but you'll have to cut up the speaker hole to do so. Crutchfield has nice adapter plates that will let you put a 6.5" in with no cutting or anything.

Yep, the front speakers are 4".

3 1/4 up front, and 6 1/2 in the back, the back will need something to put it in unless you buy el cheapo speakers with a tiny magnet. i just used a small mdf board cut a hole fit the edges, whammo!!!!!

Stock they are 4" speakers up front, BTW. That's about as big as you can go in the stock speaker locations.

I put 6.5" in the doors, 4" in the dash and 6.5" in the rear shock towers.

Are you guys on crack or something? Take out that pos metal thing in the shock tower that the origional speakers were on. An 8in. sub fits perfectly in the hole and the screw holes on mine matched up perfectly. I did this with both of my RX-7's. If you don't beleive me then ask spazzytroy, he was there when I put them in. The 8's make the sound ssoo much better. With my amp and the bass up they thumped as hard as the 10's in my friends truck.

I got mine for $40 CDN each brand new in box. I love having friends that buy stuff then can't use it.

Music is important to me, but not that important. Eight inch subs are just going to cost more. Although I'm sure the sound makes it worth it.

I just installed new speakers all the way around. I went with 6.5" in door, 4" in dash, and 6.5" in the shock tower. I used the stock piece in back after I just cut a larger hole and sanded the rough edges a little. Hardest part was running some new wire to bypass all that thin, brittle, 12 year old wire.
