Spark Plug Question
Spark Plug Question
So in the efforts of trying to eliminate my cars current situation found here https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...-seals-999957/, I snapped a few pics of my spark plugs to help me figure out if I have bad oil seals or not. My question with these plugs, do they look like my car is running rich or does it look like oil building up indicating my oil seals are on their way out? I'm not sure what rotary spark plugs are suppose to look like as it already burns oil by design, but I'm leading toward the first of my two possibilities. I figured someone who has seen bad oil seals would know what their looking at. Also note that the picture of my L1 spark plug is darker due to how the lighting captured it....it looks identical to the others.
I should also mention my mods for the rich factor. My car is running 720 secondaries, a bonez dp and highflow cat, and 2.5 in exhaust all untuned (I know I know)

Untuned Rtek and adding premix to a working OMP.
Clean your plugs and see what you get.
You never mentioned how many miles are on those plugs either,so who's to know what is really going on.

I apologize for leaving out crucial details as I should be more specific.
When I mean untuned, It's currently running just the stock ecu...I have no tuning software of any sort.
I'm currently not premixing. It was previously premixed and had half a tank of gas. I filled it the rest of the way with non premixed gas and burned it off down to about an 1/8th of a tank. I'm currently ~1/4 of a tank on my 2nd tank (1st refill since the premixed gas).
I'm not sure of the mileage on the plugs as most of the 1st tank of gas had seen a lot of idle time and short trips(around the neighborhood and moving the car around the driveway). I would estimate ~300 actual driving miles or less and I put them in brand new near the end of May.
Will do on the cleaning.

Which could very well be as I mentioned it ran a tank of gas with god knows how much oil mixed with it initially. I'm just trying to solve my smoking issue that I've posted in the other thread and I'm trying to determine if my car has a bad turbo seal or if the oil control rings or bad. Possibly a something else I could be overlooking or unaware of? So far the lack of consistency has me puzzled as my car has gone from smoking immediately upon start up when I first got it running, to being completely non-smoking, to intermediately smoking after being driven and fully warmed up under light throttle and idle. I will say it will smoke worse after having gone into a harder pull in boost with the car rather than if I stayed out of it.

..and on the stock ecu setting you are trying to control 720's.It's Not meant to do that.As for the smoke,if you suspect it is the turbo you can always just pop the downpipe and inlet pipes off to check for oil.
If you see oil you have narrowed down your problem.
Can you cut out your premix?..If the OMP is working then it is OK...Ya sure, the "old premix and omp insurance card"..Horse Hockey...One or the other is FINE..both is a waste of oil and coin.

I'm aware, I just haven't purchased anything like an rtek unit yet. I also don't drive the car much either since its still a project, I'm just trying to narrow its current issues one by one but also keep the car from sitting and not running.
I know there is oil in my exhaust from time to time as I've seen small amounts collect at the tail pipe and it has leaked oil from where the flange on the down pipe meets the rest of the exhaust.
Like I mentioned previously I'm not premixing.
I'm leaning toward it being the oil seals in the turbo, which I've been planning on having my spare rebuilt. I was just trying to understand the weird consistency of my problem and rule out what it is or what it is not. I was under the impression that if one of these seals, whether turbo or oil control o-rings, smoking would be a constant thing.
Could it be possible the originally turbo seals were leaking from previous owners abuse/having not been in use for several years and with a few heat cycles they some how sealed themselves and have now began to start crapping out and not sealing again? (I'm not an expert on turbos but this seems like it could be sort of plausible given my situation.)
