spark plug colors

I put new plugs in my car 3000 miles ago and saw that the top trailings plugs were whitish and had a whitish goo on them. I just scraped them off with my fingernail. They were both the same. The bottom two were like tanish color. They were harder but still scraped off with my fingernail. It was a tan brown to be exact. Does anyone know what my engines dong acording to that??? its an 89GXL.

Well

off goes the egr valve.

Ummm my plugs were kind of goldish when new. And if thier was a coolant leak wouldnt I see smoke... Never smokes at all. But i thought it meant lean running condition.
