the sound of the 13b..a concerto for you?

my first rx7 was an 82. my second was an 86 sport. my current is an 89 pettit street sport convertible( bought it that way..not bragging)

my first two cars...when i stepped on em... gave me no other pleasure than power.

my street port 89 vert...when i step on it the power is good but after owning it for about 7 months or so. ive noticed a distinguisging(spell check) musical note from the intake side of my beautiful rotary instrument.....when the beast gets to about 7,000 rpms..she starts to sing to me.. kinda like when you rub a crystal wine glass with vinegar(anyone know this trick?)around the rim?

anyways its an acoustical sound that could make the strongest piston driven man break down into tears. it is a combination between resonance and acoustic reverb..

never mind...either your engine sounds like this and you know what im saying...or it dont!!

if yours does you know why im typing this its like listening to an opera and experiencing the rotory power band all tied into one simple pressing of the right foot.

please tell me im not the only person to appreciate the sound of a beautifully tuned rotory engine!!

OOOOOH yeah!

I love when you hop in and crank it, and first fires up... the sound only a rotary can make and only a rotorhead can appreciate. Not your genaric piston vroom!

Yes, my friend I too have experienced that wonderful sound that is the 13B. I'm extremely curious on how the RX8 will sound (anyone heard it or got a sound file?) since it uses side exhaust ports instead of the PP that the current 13B uses (although I plan on converting the sleeves so that it's not a PP anymore to eliminate the overlap and gain back that robbed power). To me only one sound comes CLOSE to this greatness...the F355 GTS.

When the VDI is open, you get that sweet air intake wooshing sound at 7000 rpms.

Your right, it's like "DAMN THAT'S COOL" Sounds kinda musical too.

Terrh,

Guess you've never heard a ported rotary before then. We've got our own "monster power" exhaust note too ya know
