Sorry guys, another one

Thanks a lot to all the people in the forum that have answered my questions. The cars still new in my hand and im just trying to solve some of its teething problems. Well tonight I clearly noticed something. The engine was warmed up, about 55degrees outside. Im going to in and out and im going through the gears. But in each gear I noticed lag at exactly 3.5-3.6kRPM, does this have to do with the secondary injectors going online or being clogged?? I dont think the lag faded as I went up in RPMs. I thought the secondary inj. opened up at 4k? Well the feeling of "lag" in my story can best be described as the car losing a bit of power, like the brakes were being touched a bit, to a noticeable level. So I didnt think anything of it then, and was cruising out of IN & Out when I see some of the guys I used to race with and hang out with when I had my 240 (all of them had 240s). Well one of the guys has a S14 97 with intake and exhaust SE (so it has the limited slip) wanted to race me. In my S13 I easily left him behind pulling 2-3 car lengths in each gear thanks to some cam work which pushed my top end up a lot higher. In fact in the S13 I never lost to any of these other NA 240s in my area(not trying to sound cocky or anything). Well we raced and we were about even and in 2nd he pulls on me a lot and by third hes about 8 car lengths down!!. And the thing was he had two other people in the car with him!! WTF is up with that, I felt a **** losing to the same guys that I had introduced to 240s. I really hate losing cause of things like this, esp. to people Ive already beaten. After the race the question that changed everything:
Friend: is it turbo or NA?
me: its NA
Friend: Why'd you get NA???
Well before this moment the FC was only gonna be a temp. project to learn more about the rotary and build exp with before i got the FD. But now I think im gonna be putting the FD plans on hold and making this a full blown project. My goal is for that question never to be asked again. I know this maybe should have been posted under kills but I really wanted the feedback of other FC owners again (even though Ive asked you guys a huge amount of questions already) If you guys have had the same symptoms involving the lag/loss of power. Sorry for making this kinda long but thanks for all your help so far. And one more thing: What would be my best choices as far as building it up? Going turbo/keeping it NA? Thanks again

I have read that that might be caused by someting not being grounded all that great. Like your injectures or someting. Not to sure haven't really had that problem jsut yet. Try searching to find out for sure. Just an idea of what I think it might be.

thanks kleach, the search button actually does help lol. It seems like the symptoms of the dreaded "3800 Hesitation" I guess. I'll change the 02 sensor and fuel filter anyways, But for the "hesitiation" does that imply the loss of power is above 3800 also?

im gonna be posting a how to on the ECU ground this week, hopefully monday or tuesday man, it'll have pics and all.

something is definitely wrong up there, with just a cone filter intake i was behind a 96 N/A 240 that had an exhaust and intake, and i almost hit him in the *** because he couldnt accelerate fast enough.

check the fuel filter, air filter, plugs, plug wires, timing, TPS, make sure there are no intake leaks, the 2ndary injectors come on at 3800rpm, should casue a lack of power after the bit of lag though

Thanks AgentD. I got the plugs, wires, air filter changed a couple of days ago. I'll check the timing out though and intake piping for leaks.

It's just a momentary hiccup in the fuel delivery. Here's a write-up on regrounding the ECU to try to fix this problem.

I tried driving it around a couple more times after this and it seems this hesitiation never doesnt fade going up the revs. THanks for the link. I checked it out earlier when I ran a search. Being a beg to the FC though, I was gonna wait for some pictures to make sure I get it right. Interestingly enough though I found one site that thinks that the grounding isnt the cause to the hestitation but old exhaust piping. Something about there being a too much back pressure from messed up cats and the 5th and 6th ports opening up early/late. Another theory was that the 5th and 6th ports being stuck but I havent found a way to check that out yet.
