I'm having the same problem, I think I need a rebuild. I am gonna put my airpump back in and I'm gonna get a new front rad before I do a rebuild.
My rx7 is a 87 gxl.

There are many things that can cause your FC to overheat or run hot. Check your belts first to make sure thier not slipping. Pressure check your cooling system and rad caps. Clean the radiator with a high pressure hose inside and out. Flush the cooling system. Some people add water wetter and you will see about a 20% drop in temp. Last check the fan clucth.
I use a 50-50 ratio of coolant to distilled water with water wetter and run 1/4 temp on the gauge.
