Sometimes Gear does not go in..???HELP!
I have a 87 base- and the following problem has been bothering me...
When you turn the engine off after a while of driving, and start it back up again, the gear would not shift in. It would not go in 1,2,3,4, or 5. When I try to force it in to any of these gears, the rpm slightly goes down.(but the gear has not shifted in) the shifter moves to the Reverse, but when I move it down there, it gives me this "greech" noise- But the reverse does not engage in gear, and when I force it down, it stalls the engine.
But if you cool the engine down with the engine off for 20 min. or so(it varies a LOT- sometimes it takes 5, other times it takes 30 min), and turn the engine on, the gear goes in fine, drives fine in all gears.
what could be wrong? Any insight would be extremely appriciated.
Thanks a lot guys!
Shin

do you try and put it into gear right away? like right after you start it?
If that is the case, try leaving it in Neutral, then release the clutch pedal put it back in then try putting it into gear, My car did this before I rebuild my tranny and put new clutch in!

nope, I aleady tried that. Once the clutch is in that "I dont want to go in gear" state, it would just not go in unless you turn off the engine, let it cool, and start the engine back up and try again.
thanks for the help though! I really appriciate it!
