Thumbs up Someone clear this up for me

Yeah, haha. I know I might sound dumb but I'm doing research on the FC coz Imma bout to by one but I'm getting confusing stats, sum1 care to help me out on this?

One site says:
86-88 13b is 146bhp
89-91 13b is 160bhp
86-88 13b Turbo is 182bhp
89-91 13b Turbo is 200bhp

Another site says:
The second generation (the "FC", whose VIN begins JM1FC3) featured a complete restyling; some would say it resembled the Porsche 944. It had two series, from 1986-1988 (series 4) and 1989-1991 (series 5). The S4 came with a naturally aspirated (N/A) fuel-injected 13B makeing 146 horsepower. In 1987 a turbocharged model was introduced (the Turbo II) making 189 hp. The S5 cars featured updated styling and better engine management, as well as lighter rotors and higher compression. The N/A S5 FC made 160hp, while the S5 TII made 200 hp.

See the thing is I want the strongest FC possible stock-wise b4 I start tuning and all that but its so hard to find a 89-91 Turbo in Virginia. I did find a 86 Turbo, so I'm a little confused on what I'm getting. Please help, appreciate it at bunch.

How much Horsepower did my car come with from the factory?
86-88 NA = 146 HP @ 6500 RPM w/ 138 Ft/lb @ 3500 RPM
86-88 Turbo = 182 @ 6500 RPM w/ 183 Ft/lb @ 3500 RPM
89-91 NA = 160 HP @ 7000 RPM w/ 140 Ft/lb @ 4000 RPM
89-91 Turbo = 200-202 @ 6500 RPM w/ 196 Ft/lb @ 3500 RPM
Infini IV = 215 @ 6500 RPM w/ 206 Ft/lb @ 3500 RPM

Horsepower numbers aren't everything, especially on a rotary. Horsepower to WEIGHT ratios are what you should be looking at...

yeah what is official???

The first one you posted is the most correct (and matchs the one we have listed here in the FAQ for FC).

And techincally there were no 86 Turbos in the USA. All the US spec Turbos made in 86 were sold as 87 model year.

Of course in Japan and Aus/NZ there were 86 model year Turbos, but they would all be right hand drive and still 182 HP.

As Wayne stated, HP to weight the most important. S4 TII 15.65, S5 TII 14.93. The S5 still tops. If the S4 has PS and or ABS (both optional) you'd need to add that into the equation making the S4 even slower 16.07

Unless you are considering major modifications, the best performance setup is generally an 87-88 TubroII with an 89-92 engine and a standalone EMS. The 87-88 body is lighter, has better suspension bushings, and a better LSD. The 89-92 engine has better rotors and a better turbo unit. The standalone EMS will take care of the engine wiring harness issues, and will be a huge improvement over the stock ECU.

If you are just looking for a mostly-stock car, then any year of TurboII will be just fine. These cars are too old for you to worry about how they performed back in the 80's. Just find one that you like, and upgrade as desired. Just don't try and turn a non-turbo into a turbo, as this is not worth the trouble given the small price difference between these models in the used car market.
