Some questions from a neophyte:

1) I was unable to find a somewhat current pricing guide for s4/s5 rx-7s. Anyone?

2) Is the N/A version of the RX-7 worth it? Considering that most of what I hear for power increases consists of "swap in a TII motor"... Wouldn't it be more worthwhile to get a TII?

3) Assuming I own a s5 TII in nice condition... (I wish!) What kind of money am I going to need to put into it to get 250rwhp? (BTW: Nice condition consists of no engine problems, and assuming over 75K on the engine.)

And yes, this is my first post, and yes, I know about the search button, and yes, I DID use it, but... I'm finding very little in the way of monetary value in this forum. Coming from the piston-pounding world, where everything seems hell-bent on getting the most "bang for your buck" to what appears to be a somewhat more layed back world here in RX-7 land in quite a shock to me. However, I'm rather impressed with RX-7s, and I'm considering buying one in the next year or so. Being as to how I am a college student, it is incredibly difficult for me to scrounge up funds. A somewhat accurate pricing guide would be incredibly helpful for me to see just how much I should save up.

It's just a major shame that my funding dies around $2,500 for a car. Some of the nicer ones I'd like to own are selling for upwards of $6,000 on eBay.

On one last note: Please excuse my bad english. It is very late at night and I am typing with my left hand only.

for a good condition rx7 be willing to pay $2000 - $4000 depending on if you get a good deal or not and to get 250 rwhp depending on what you get my guess is around 800 - 1200 someone correct me if im wrong on any of this

Just found the "Time Slips and Dyno" part of the FC section. Doh! A lot of what I need to know concerning the 250rwhp is here.

Hey there, I'll try to answer some.

A. In Colarado i immagine most cars go for pretty cheap. I co-own and NA and we picked ours up for 1K. This is an S4 of course. S5 go for significantly more than S4 if the seller knows what she or he has. TII, for 2.5K, you are most likely going to find a beater. Not recommended for a couple reasons: Mazda parts are excessively expensive new and Anything engine related takes a lot of research and a high level of understanding. It is one of the more complex engine bays i have had the pleasure of working in.

S4 vs S5
At this point im assuming TII is out of your funds range. It is still possible to find the jewel you wanted if you search hard enoguh though X]

S5 are nicer Rx7's in general. Off the top of my mind (not I've only driven an S4) they have a shorter shift throw (nice), 15 more HP with a VDI induction system, Stiffer chassis (ie more weight..it hink about 120 lbs more) and many have the annoying mouse track type automatic seatbelts that people love to hate. One more thing, they also have tail lights that look about 200 times better IMO than the S4 lights.

2500 still isn't a lot of money but you might be able to find a good conditioned S5. S5 also are significantly more rare than S4 if that floats your boat.

To get power out of the NA the only way to get BIG numbers is to take the engien apart and do a port of some kind on the rotor housing. Not easy. By BIG i mean over 210 RWHP.
Just with an SAFC (aftermarket fuel controller ...220$ ebay) and headers most people can see 160 RWHP and up on a good condition engine.

So basically...
I'd suggest you look for S5 (i have a bias towards NA) because of more instantaneous throttle response over Turbo and it weighs a good 180lbs lighter b/c of less beefy drive train parts and with an engine sans turbo. S5 look way cooler but i think almost all tparts that one would want on an S5 can be put onto an S$ (that cool airdam, rear tail lights, shift lever, VDI) but it all takes work.

The bad side of RX7's in general is that their parts from mazda cost a whole lot, they have relatively fragile engines and have flooding issues on some cars. Not to mention cars with power steering have way too much assist and NO FEEL OF THE ROAD whatsoever. I breifly drove a non PS rack and did'nt notice anything besides it being harder to turn

Have fun!
