Some Porting and Storing Questions

So I've got an '87 rx7 thats ready to hybernate for the winter. Before I get it all stored away I thought it might be a good time to do some of those thing's I never get around to doing well she's on the road. First off, I was thinking of porting the intake manifold but I just received some info from a mechanic at my local mazda dealer that sort of turned me off this. First off, the mechanics at the Campbell River Mazda are all lunatics, they have NO CLUE whatsoever, but for the most part, neither do I, so what the hell I thought I'd listen. They said that porting the intake manifold would screw up the portion of air that is supposed to taken into the combustion chamber, therefor resulting in an incorrect mix of gas and air, which would lead to all sorts of horrible things. Also I was thinking of gutting my cats, of course they were totally against this because, "It's not a responsible thing to do ya know" and also because of the risk of losing ALL my backpressure, I KNOW this is all bullshit, you will lose backpressure but ALL of it?! I think not!

That said, my car will most likely sit for about 3 months, dec, jan, feb, and maybe even march.....weather pending. Thats kind of a long time, so I was wondering if there is anything recommended to do b4 you store your car like this, I know rotories don't store well.

Thanks for your responce

CR sucks for car work.

There is very little material to port on the s4's... look for basically a gasket match and a quick polish. Hardly even worth the gaskets...

Air/fuel is determined by measuring the air going into the engine from the air-flow meter... port-flow has nothing to do with this.
Ask your mechanics then why engine porting would make more power if the stock ECU would "screw up the air/fuel mixture". Ask them why higher airflow would screw up the power even though the intake air is directly metered. Better yet, have them call me.
PM me for my phone number.

Gutting the cats... even with stock gutted pipes and stock catback you will have enough backpressure to open your auxilary ports. Been there, done that. Problems only arise when you switch to an aftermarket, high flow catback and/or race pipes.

I'm not even so sure that is the case. the RB presilencer is nothing more than a muffled straight pipe and it simply has the hookup for the 6 port actuator tapped off the side of it. I'm going to try tapping my straight pipe and see if it'll run the 6 ports because its far lighter and more reliable than any other method. (and you can't beat the price)

All of these questions have been covered before, so a search will turn them up. I have written extensively on storing a car before, which again will show up when you search.
