Some Idle Problems...
Some Idle Problems...
Now dont go off immediately telling me to search....haha, because trust me I have done it.
My problems started a while back when I pulled up to a light and came to a complete stop. The car wouldn't idle and it just died. I started it and it wouldn't idle, it would just die if I wasn't giving it some gas. So that went on for a few days, and then the problem just stopped. I had not changed anything with the car and it was fine for a long time. Now the problem started again, but sometimes it will idle and sometimes it wont. Whats throwing me off is the fact that it works sometimes, and sometimes doesn't. Is there anything that would cause this fluctuation? And if so what is it?
Thanks,
Joey

I could only think of a vaccuum leak really.
I had a small one that would be intermittant(sp error).
Would die at lights sometimes, other times it would be just fine.
I think it had to do with the temperature outside though... hotter it ran better (thinking because less air molecules or something got in) and vice versa.
Other things i would just verify other than a vac leak... is your idle speed/mixture, your timing is right on, and your tps is set correctly.
I finally got my car to run right after adjusting all these and fixing the vac leaks... this is only what worked for me and am passing on what I did, take it as you will.

same here man i just got my 1990 tII, the guy told me like this that the oil metering pump was bad and the position sensor, dont kno if it was the tps or an other sensor, the car turns on but wont stay on at all unless i give it gas,my friend told me that the injectors can be bad, or arent clean, some 1 else said vac leak,
and do the tps have 2 be tuned, and how can i check for vac leaks?????????????

RX-7 idle is a complex issue.
First, the mechanical idle stop on the TB has to be close to 750.
To set it, the engine must be warmed up, with no extra loads, & the BAC bypassed.
The most common problem is the BAC.
It may be dirty & sticking, or its connector may need cleaning.
If the TPC is out of adjustment or just worn out, the ECU may not activate the BAC to handle idle speed.
Also, after you have been at idle for a few seconds, the ECU can then do an idle lean down.
Of course an intermittant vac leak can screw up everything & drive you and the ECU nuts.
The whole procedure is in the FSM fuel & emmissions section.
I have a copy at the link in my sig.

I have the same problem but my engine is bareblocked so I dont think its the vacuum leak and it backfires so bad. I'm lookin into that FSM but if you can think of anything let me know or call me..I will be forever greatful haha.
