CA solenoid question (searched)

I have a NA S5 and i broke the VDI solenoid. I wanted to know if all the solenoids are different or if they are just color coded different. I went to the dealership and the part numbers for the VDI and 6PI were the same. but i just pulled a couple from the junkyard today from a couple of S4s and i wanted to see if anyone could help me out.

They're all the same thing, but you just have to make sure you get one that has the inlet/outlet config the same way as the VDI. There are 2 variants though, 1 is ON with 12V power applied, and the other kind is OFF with 12V. But you can simple remove the air filter and interchange between the two as well.

Off an S4, the EGR (yellow) and Relief (Blue) are setup the same as the 6PI and VDI solenoids, so get one of them.

Yeah just test it with +12V and ground then blow through the solenoid to verify what port opens and what closes.

yeah... what he said... there are two different kinds... one is normally open & closes with current - the one you don't want - the other opens when current is applied... these are the ones you want. The ports are different for the inlets but the numbers seem the same. Just blow into them to see the difference

The VDI solenoid is configured just like the BLUE (relief) solenoid, so use it as is. In other words the filter goes near the port that is next to the electrical jack.
