Soft Gas Pedal?
I learned to drive stick with the 7 i just bought, so it doesn't really bother me because it's all I know, but my friends who have driven it all say that the gas pedal is pretty soft. I guess this is true, but I don't know the difference.
Anyhow, there's not a whole lot of resistance when pressing on the gas. It doesn't really hurt the performance of the car, but I was wondering if this was a common thing in 7s, or if there's something wrong. Maybe there's just a screw loose or something? :P
Thanks
-Meg
Also, I really want to learn how to work on my own car, but being a girl (no, I'm not using it as an excuse) no one has really taught me. Is there a good book or something to start learning on? Or should I just pick up one of my manuels and study up?

The haynes manuals are a really good pictorial do-it-your self type books, but leave details out (which you then go to the FSM after that to fill in the blanks).
As for the softness, it could be the throttle linkage needing adjustment...

It could be the springs on the throttle or the pedal. Take a look under the dash to make sure its in a good condition.
The haynes manual is a really good book to get. Also you live in the San Diego area, this weekend is their monthly meet. They are really nice people down there, check them out, Im sure they can offer some advice.

ROTARD FOR LIFE!!!
as far as learning to mess with your car, a book can only tell you "how to go about it" you wont really learn anything unless you get your hands dirty and take it apart... the books are also good(somtimes...) for telling you what not to do. Good Luck and welcome to the world of the Rotary Engine and Mazda. Good Luck
