Socially Acceptable?
Socially Acceptable?
I know something in life aren't socially acceptable. For instance a guy drinking Seagrams coolers is not really an OK thing to do. A guy who likes Notting Hill more than Hamburger Hill is in for a heckling...that being said....I have a fading aluminum hood and I one day hope to put a turbo engine in my vert....does going out of my way to put a turbo hood on the car without a turbo engine, make me a bad RX7 owner and a poser? Is it not an acceptable thing to do?
It's kind of a faux pas but I doubt anyone is going to grill you over it. You might suffer some of those "oh, so it's not really a turbo" looks of disappointment at meets and such. But it's not like you're putting Turbo II vinyls on your fenders or anything. I know there's been debate over the actual functionality of it, with some arguing that it actually increases engine bay temps by disrupting the airflow coming through the front. Though I doubt anyone has done wind tunneling to verify that. If it were me, I'd just go ahead and repaint the stock hood.
On a side note, I used to drink wine coolers back in the day. Beer tastes like ****, and no amount of "it's what real men drink" is going to convince me otherwise. After awhile I quit drinking altogether.

I just wanted to ask...I figure..in the end if I wanted to do it, no one can say anything to sway me one way or the other. Fixing my hood problems isn't my biggest issue these days so I was curious.
Side note: I drank my mom's coolers when I was like 15....and now that I can almost legally drink..I'm becoming a fan of good beer and nice wine but it would take solid amounts of money for me to drink hard alcohol. Preferences-it's what makes this country great.

After finding- and subsequently lifting- an aluminum Turbo hood at the junkyard, the weight savings alone convinced me to mount it on my NA.
After a few weeks I traded it for an alloy NA (scoopless) hood that was even the right color.
Didn't bother me to sport the turbo hood though- **** 'em if they can't take a joke.

Do keep in mind that my NA Aluminum hood isn't in bad shape...but it "seems" like the color of red is fading...no dents, no dings...nothing.....heck...if someone wanted to trade me...I'm all ears...
The original hood is like 50 lbs on the S4, so yes I'll be going carbon fiber, if only for lightness (and less chance of breaking a finger). I don't care that it has a scoop and my car is N/A. Rock the hood
It's your car.

What is front mount going for these days? And does any modding under the hood or to the front bumper need to take place?

the Stock Hood is 50 some Odd pounds. An Aluminum hood is about 26.(about half the Weight).Theoretically it "will make your car Faster"!..haha.And even IF the Guys Go"hey it's ONLY an N/A and NOT a TurBo"..tell them to STFU!..Because you Have your Engine Being Dyno'ed,at Raplh's Speed Shop(fictitious Name of Course!),and that you Are In the middle of Swapping out engines!..(I bought TII fenders to replace my Damaged Driver's fender.I am going TII,Eventually..just have to Put money aside for it.) So why not, have a TII hood on your car?.The Hood will be lighter, the Engine will run Cooler.,The car will Look Sharper..and even If it is Not Politically Correct..Screw them!..You are teh One who Drives it!If they want a Different Hood on it,then tell them to BUY You one!..Have fun!..
I'm with Topless....
Keep the alum NA hood! Go FMIC.... Keep the turbo hidden. Then whomp on some non-believers.
NA hoods are WAY sexier than TII hoods IMHO. The NA hood is the centerpiece of the entire car... the scoop breaks it up and takes away from the mirrored shine.

If the hood's just fading, why not at least try to bring it back with some cut polish? That can do wonders for old paint. It's worth a shot before spending $$ to get another hood that's probably not in any better shape.
No, it doesn't make you a poser, but it would be a lot smarter to take the money you would have spent on the TII hood and put it towards a front mounted intercooler.
