hey sorry if a few of u dont lik this post if u dont then just dont read it, now iv been searching around on this site an nobody really says that the 2nd gens r fast, i bought a 2nd gen GXL havin no idea wether it was fast or not (its not running) i just wanted to buy it cuz i know the rep the 3rd gens hav, so plz tell me what u think and, what piston motor car would u say it matches in speed an acceleration?

 

stock they are 16 sec cars.
with mods they run 14-15 sec 1/4 mile

 

define fast.

A stock FD is not fast by my definition, so a NA FC isn't either.

But it could be to other people.

 

well i drive a ford thunderbird supercoupe with a supercharged 3.8 w/ a new pully system, cold air intake and a flowmaster exhaust, by fast i mean faster then most stock imports

 

It's fast enough to keep up with most the honda rice cars on the road, and more than fast enough in the twisties. Drag, you won't beat much since they're not really a drag vehicle without spending a fortune.

congrats on the purchase of the 7.

N/A 7's aren't really noted for the staright line acceleration, rather their incredible ability to tear it up on the corners. However, with some smart modding, a lot of money and time, you'll be able to take a good majority of cars on the road today.

The supercoupe weighs in at a hefty 3500+lb's, the FC's are around 2700. Now compare:

Supercoupe: about 210HP
FC (2nd gen rx7) about 150-160

 

ya im more of a drifter then a dragger myself do u think the supercoupe or the 7 will be a better drifter if i get lik the same **** fo the 7 as i got fo the supercoupe, in ur opinion how do u think there pick up is in a scale of 1-10

 

hey I know all about those T-bird SC's I had one

I had a 5-speed and it would pull away from the stock Mustang GT's around town. Mine was the 89 with the lower-power version of the Eaton on it. But it flew, especially when compared to a thinderbird with the plain V6. There was just no comparison.

Now, your SC will feel faster than the 7 when driving. At least in a straight line it will. Matter of fact, I am working out a plan right now to put the same SC on my 86 RX7 GXL that came on the supercoupe. Someone else in here just did this not too long ago.

Having had both cars, I can tell you this--when at a stoplight, I could punch my supercoupe whenever I wanted and get off the line quick. But trying to take the turns meant slowing down a lot. In my FC, I cannot get off the line the same, but bring on the twists and turns, and I will leave you in the mirror with ease.

Congrats on the 7 and good luck getting it going. And if you evr wanna get rid of your SC talk to me. I am really thinking about getting another one.

 

The FC is lighter and has a better suspension setup, so it'd be the better drift car. The only problem is it lacks the power, but once you get some skill behind the car, you can make up for that. There are quite an ammount of people drifting their FC's, almost all of them are using a turbo setup. It is possible to swap a turbo engine in, which would get you a little bit quicker.

 

ya im thinkin of swappin in a tII but havin som much trouble finding one but im glad to hear sombody else enjoys the power of the SC's an the thought of swaping the motor from my SC into my GXL had crossed my mind but im kinda tryin to stick with the rotary, and my SC has no prob takin turns :P

 

its good for 130mph

 

put a monster port on your n/a and then tell me if you think it is fast, I rode in one and that car was really quick, especially with a 6k launch! Thank God for sticky tires to minimize wheel spin!

 

not me. n/a drifter. it just takes some skill. power over is not something you can do in a stock n/a s4.

 

That's why i put the park about 'once you get some skill, it makes up for that'

 

do the NA for drifting se up the suspension rite and stiffen it up and our cars handle like crazy maybe (though get the bushing too cancel out the dtss because snap backs are a bitch and watch out for cops when drifting especially when there backwoods cops they have no clue what drifting is think ur completly out of control and dont take kindly too u trying too explain lol

Oh hell yes, I hear that one, I was once on a twisty back road the greatest for drifting Ive ever been on an i was taking a great corner at like 55 completely sideways when I almost took the front clip off a state troopers car and damn was I had, lost my license for 6 months and had to pay like $345 in fines because the cop swerved into a guard rail.

sounds like you are under 20... there is nothing cool about that, and you probably don't ever want to tell anyone else about it as people will think you have no common sense or driving skills what so ever.

 

Yeah, I learned my lesson that was when i was young and dumb. Don't get me wrong Ill still very rarily drift down a public road but its only when I can't get to the track that week or just trying to show a friend the right way to do things. BTW- that was when i was 17 and im 23 right now

 

I have no problem telling people about my mistakes because thats the only way to learn is from yours and others mistakes maybe some day a kid will read this an be like man i shouldn't do that.

 

Jus get a 13BT turbo enigne. Dats wat I'm doin. 15.1 sec 1/4 and wit basics it easily hits 13's. Turbo makes a big difference in power gains.
