Unhappy So my car fell off its jackstands...

Alright, this is kind of embarrassing.

Awhile ago my TII fell off the jackstands and luckily I wasn't underneath it. However, I had an extra jackstand UNDER the car and it punched a slight hole through the floorpan without going through the carpet or insulation. What would be the best way of fixing this hole? I hammered the bulge down, but in order to prevent rust or wet carpet, I obviously need to fix this and fix it right. Any suggestions?

When the car fell, I happened to have the front wheels off and the car landed on the brake rotors. Now, it didn't SLAM onto the ground, but I wonder if any damage was sustained due to the vehicle resting on the brake rotors. I suppose an alignment might be an order, but is there anything else I should look into?

Thanks guys and please don't call me stupid.

Look for any cracked bushings or mounts. For the floor, I would suggest cutting/grinding out any damaged materials, welding a patch over it from under the car. Then go in the car, place silicon around the edges of the patch to make sure zero water comes in the car. Now while the silicon is still wet put a patch on from the top. Id let the silicon dry then weld the patch on. Now, once all the welding is done Id sand the welds on the bottom of the car a bit (just to make it really smooth, im picky ) then get a bottle of that undercoating crap and spray that on. Should be good to go assuming you hit no fuel lines etc.

Id imagine you also bent the brake rotor also. Maybe have it resurfaced or replaced. Your hub may also be damaged. Its worth looking at for cracks.

Drox's way sounds like WAY too much work for a patch job.

I would pull the carpet, remove the sound deadner in that area, bend/pound/massage in place and have the tear welded up using a MIG Welder. Theen prime/paint/undercoat the affected area. DO IT ONCE, DO IT RIGHT

i agree with banzaitoyota an drox about checking all front suspension components.

You are all talking about way to much work. That is unless he has a show car. Buy some roof patch material. Clean around the hole. Slather the crap on there. Done! I've used this on my rusty 4x4 as being water tight is a necesity for what I do with it.

Works like a charm. If the hole is really big put a bit of inter tube over the roofing goop while it is still wet. It's all under the car so who's gonna see it?

As far as the front rotors. IF it didn't hit hard I would check the sheild that is on the inboard side of the rotor. It is most likely bent. Bend it away so it won't brush the bottom of the rotor. I would not expect there to be any other problems. The parts are made to sustain some punishment, not that kind but they are robust none the less. I doubt it gave it any more shock then hitting a good pot hole at speed.

Wow, good way to get killed dude. If I may ask, how did it fall off? Not trying to point out where you went wrong, I'm just curious how it happened...

I live in Clifton, about one block from UC's main campus. What kind of '7 do you have? E-mail me at blazeredfc3s@fuse.net if you want to cruise or just hang out.

What happened was that I had a jackstand on the passenger side of the car and I was jacking the car up on the driver's side with the intent of supporting the front of the car with jackstands. However, I looked over at the passenger side stand and noticed that it was leaning with two of its little "legs" up in the air. At that moment the car shifted, fell and landed on the passenger side rotor. The jackstand that I had underneath the car was extended somewhat and with the change in the car's height, the stand poked a little hole in the floorpan.

Anyways, I'm going to use your suggestions and remedy this problem. Like I said, the damage wasn't bad, so it shouldn't be too hard to fix. I am going to have someone weld the hole shut and do some painting and undercoating to prevent further problems in that area.

Will do. I'm currently attending Miami University and in class right now, so I'll have time later to send over an e-mail.

I'm kind of a n00bie when it comes to 7's (just got mine 2 months ago). 88 SE n/a.

Sorry for changing the topic of your thread, should be the last post eplack@fuse.net

ive dropped the car of my jack three times
once the rotor put a nice lil gash in the asphalt then the next few times its put a decent little scratch but it hasnt ever done any real damage....so i dont think u should worry about the rotor thing too much

Get a cutter and cut it so it is clean all the way through the weld a patch piece in, sand it, then seal it with some undercoating spray you could probably find at your local chain hardware store

Man I would want to hit myself in the face with a baseball bat if I did that. It's the worst thing when you screw up, because then you have no one else to be mad it.

Exactly. When it happened, I started screaming obscenities at my little brother who was watching me work on my car (for some reason I tried to blame HIM for my cars fall from err...grace). Plus, one of the old folks across the street was having a heart attack, so there were all of these paramedics running around dealing with that mess. After the car fell and I started screaming, two of the medics ran over to see if I was underneath the car and when they saw that I was fine, albeit cussing like a sailor, they smiled and walked away.

Gawd, that day sucked.
