so i was taking my starter off.....

so i was taking my starer off of my transmission using a ratchet but i forgot to switch it to loosen. so instead i was tightening the nut. now the nut turns but doesn't loosen. i think i might have broke it off its treads or something. any recommendations? anyway to take it off without causing too much more damage?

you need a new one. you may have to replace the bolt too. see if you can't get a grinder and cut the nut off, then pull the bolt and see if it is stripped (probably is) then replace parts if necessary! (non- condescending smile)

which bolt is it?cause the bolt on the left side has a nut behind it.you'll have to hold it in place w/ another ratchet or wrench.

Which bolt did you break? If you broke one of the big ones, it's more likely you have stripped the threads. You can try to pull it out by rotating and pulling on it at the same time (with a set of Vice Grips). Then repair the threads with a HeliCoil.

^ if that's the case, cut the wire at the ring terminal and yank out the starter. Then you can put it on a table and have a better look.

true that, the solinoid is the only thing he had, I guess I was assuming that since he was pullikng the starter off it was probably **** canned and by the time you get a $30 noid, and a $20 rebuild kit for the brushes and holder...... Think I can get the starters for like $68 now so I am assuming like $85 off the street (jobbers discount).

well the thing is i have 2 rx7. one is a non-running turbo II parts car and the other is a n/a. im trying to swap the tII trans into the n/a so i was taking my starter off the tII. if i just have to replace the solenoid then i would have one in my n/a. can i just cut it somewhere and use my n/a solenoid with the tII starter?
