So I have the opportunity to buy 3 rx-7's for $400, what to do?

So someone wants me to pick up 3 rx-7's for $400, one is a 86 blue on blue base model and has no pulse to the injectors, interior is a little rough due to windows being open for a while, the next is a 86 silver base model 4 seater that is in good condition but he says it had major electrical issues, the 3rd is a 87 vert that has been wreaked in the front. So my question is does this just sound like a headache or should I go for it? My funds are kind of low and im concerned about running out of money and if so how hard it would be to get rid of these again. What do you guys think?

Yes. You can part them out and make your money back easily if you decide not to go forward with it. Plus you are saving 3 sevens from the junkyard

Id think between the engines and trans and diffys you could get 400 easily

If you don't want the clutter, I'd take 'em all to a pick 'n pull, they usually give you pretty good money if you tow the car in.

I blew the head gasket and warped the heads on my 92 camry, took it in with a smashed up drivers side and still got $200 for it.

parting out cars sucks, i hate it and your always left with the junk that you can't even give away.

If the vert runs and isn't wrecked too bad you would have the front end parts to fix it. And its most likely and 88 since they did not make the vert in 87. If they came with titles I would fix the nicest one that is the easiest to fix and scrap the other two after you pulled all the good parts off of them.

You could make good money off of parting them. I've made about $400 profit parting a car with no motor. Its just a pita...

Do not let this deal pass you by. If it were me I would be on that like white on rice. I once bought three rx-7s for $400 dollars as well (seriously, very coincidental I know). I kept two of them and my friend got one of them. I most definitely profited from the deal and I regret not doing more to fix them up and get even more use out of them.

I'd do it, but I want a straight 86 or 87 coupe shell. If you don't then that's your problem :P

5-lug swap from the vert to the one with the nicest shell. Swap the motors, trans, wiring as needed to get the coupes working right and part/sell off the rest.

Or, if the vert only has a busted bumper rebar, swap over one from the coupes and use it to fix the other coupe, then you'll have a coupe and a vert!

I parted out ONE s4 phone dial base model and made $1400 off of it before the town got tired of driving by and seeing it. I could have made another $200-500 off of it by saving the glass, hood, hatch, headlamps, trans, subframe, steering stuff and then selling the bare shell for scrap.

Yes. You are sitting on a goldmine.

Parting them out is a pain in the *** but think of it is making $40-50 per hour stripping cars LEGALLY.

Yea I picked up 2 87 Rx-7's to begin with for $500 but one was rolled and the other had front end damage. I parted the rolled one and made good money but there were parts laying around for years once I finnally got rid of em. My issue is space, and neigborhood association, and if these have worse issues than I think. Can I use wireing/ecu from the vert on a coupe?

Consider this though:

Do you have the space to have these three cars sitting around for a while? (Couple months.)
Do you have the means that the township you live in will not hassle you about inoperable vehicles?
Do you have the time to work on them?
Do you have alternate transportation while you work on these cars?

Parting cars out is also a PITA because lots of people are cheap bastards. I've had an engine on sale for a while now with compression numbers and a running video and everybody still wants to lowball me or wants me to drive it to them and do the damn install too.

I have a garage, and I can possibly use my parents house and my g/f said i could use her house cuz Im planning on building one for her so she can lose the mustang with a never endng payment.
My neighborhood sucks but I can maybe get away with it as long as the car moves.
I am in school so time sometimes sucks.
I have a truck and motorcycle so I def have transportation.
If I do go through with it I may have to rip what I want off and see if someone wants whats left. Id give it away for cheap or free depending.

I sent you a PM. I would jump on it. Austin has plenty of nice folks living on the outskirts, with land, who could lend you some space if you were willing to keep it tidy. I wouldn't try to repair any of them, though...there are so many good, running RX's out there for too little money to make it worth it...and the lost income would be huge. For a $400 investment you'll be able to make at least $2k in profit...whereas if you use them to fix one you'll end up with a car worth $1000 without additional funds put into it.

i would do it, and recommend you do to if you have means and know how. if you take the chance buy them and do it right you could possibly end up with 1-2 working cars, and a good chunk of part out money. sure it's a pain in the *** but like i said, if you have the means and know how.

buy all 3 for $400, use all the good parts to make 1 good car, then make a second car that needs work, and sell the 2nd car, then burn the vert to the ground.

I talked to the lady who has 2 of the cars and she says the vert has right front damage, sounded like it isnt to bad and Im pretty shure the vert still runs. Im hoping this is true cuz Im shure my g/f would like a $200 vert but im stealing the rims, lsd, and 5-lug if thats the case lol, she doesnt need all that stuff. Im getting kinda hyped about it and im checking them out friday so I hope the cars are somewhat as described. Basically I found these on CL with an ad that said 86 rx-7 $550, talked to the guy and he said well I have a couple others if your interested. I asked if we could work a deal for parts off the vert + the actual car and he responded well $600 isnt gonna work its $400 and you take everything or nothing. Sounds like someone has to many cars and maybe someone is tired of looking at them.

I went to look at 2 of them today, The vert is just about useless, interior sucks, no engine, front is completly screwed, but wheels tranny, 5-bolt and rear are there. The other is pretty straight but looks like someone spray painted it flat black and the original red is showing through, interior is shot and I didnt get to see the engine (this is the one with bad electrical issues) Havent seen the last one yet but im starting to get cold feet.
