So I bought me an FC...

I bought an FC...hurray. It should be here later today. The car (purchased from an RX7club member) was actually just around the corner from my cousin's house, so my uncle went and bought it for me (he had already told me it looked great, considering the price).

My cousin will bring it to my home later tonight (it's 5 hours from here).

It's an 89 GTU with no A/C and a blown engine... bought it for 400 bucks... but it'll probably cost me $250 just to get it home, oh well.

So now I get to rebuild it...by myself... hurray (slight sarcasm).

I'll make sure to take pictures...

It was actually overheated... coolant seals are blown. Don't know what else is wrong with it, since it was rebuilt by a previous owner less than 10K ago.

Hopefully coolant didn't rust the insides while it was sitting for 3~ months.

Also hoping it still has good compression (as in OK rotor seals).

Well it's in my front yard now... took some pics but I couldn't see through the viewfinder last night so they kind of suck.

I think I need to wash it first... I also charged the battery so now I can get to work on it (since it's morning now...lol).

No. I've been looking to get an RX7 for over a year. (I've rearched my *** off... I think I know more about them then at least a few owners do)

Here are some pics... it's kind of dirty and a little beat up, but hell, for the price...

Now if only I could get the hood open... I just had it open yesterday :P

It came with it's price worth of stereo equipment too (meaning 400 bucks worth)... Also need to get a new door key (which is original) since it's kinda bent and I don't trust messed up keys...

No.. they're are base S5 coupe wheels.

Well, the car's in my back yard now. I took off the lower plugs, pulled the EGI fuse (the box was unmarked, which I found strange...), and turned it over, and like I thought it would, it spewed out something that looked like oil and smelled like gas...

Strange thing is that it's missing the EGI Comp fuse, and one of the fuses is the wrong amperage (100A instead of 80A for the main fuse)... so I'm gonna go find one of those fuses, I hope.

I thought maybe it was out of gas since the gauge read empty when I turned the electricals on, but I put 2.5 gallons in their and it still says the same so I figure it wasn't empty. I also need to put air in the tires.

I also had to put quite a bit of water in the radiator...

I'm about to do a cold compression test (since it won't run yet) but I'm pretty sure the rotor seals are fine.

My complaints are that it's a blue interior... I wanted black, but eh, blue IS my favorite color... also that much of the interior is poorly installed, or loose. The spare tire is sort of flapping back and forth (missing the restraint entirely?). Also, the hood latch isn't operating properly. It'll close so that you have to open it with the latch under the hood, but it won't lock properly. The hood's support also lacks its restraint (the little plastic clip), and there's no battery stay at all. Also, the under pan is missing too.

I had thought the drivers side seat looked really faded (like in the picture), but that turned out to be a seat cover...lol. It looks brand new outside of the tear in it.

I'm hoping to get it at least running before I rebuild it...

DON'T GET A NEW FUSE! AHH! S5's have 100A main fuses.
S4's have 80A. S5's had 100A due to a big increase in amount of electronics(more powerful alt, electronic OMP, etc.)

Oh... well, anyway, I bought a 40A fuse for the EGI Injection and it didn't fit... dammit. They didn't have any others that looked like it would fit. Should I get a 30 for it? Or should I modify it so it'll fit? The only thing that looks different is that it has a slightly different plug...

Got the fuse to fit but it still hasn't cranked yet.

Also, the compression is 90 across one whole rotor... I didn't feel like doing the other one.

I tried using starting fluid, and it made a small pop the first time, but nothing after that. I think I might not be getting spark... I'll try that tommorow.

Also, the coolant level sensor's wire popped off.. dammit! It was hanging by a thread at first, now it's completely severed. I guess I should have soldered it when I had the chance.

One thing: does having the tach move while you're cranking mean the at least part of the engine is getting spark?

Or should I just get to pulling the engine as soon as possible, since I already know the coolant seals are fried? I hear gurgling in the coolant and I know the car was already overheated before...

car looks great . i wonder if its just flooded . try throwing in some atf in the spark plugs thats what i did after a couple cranks and alot of bad language that i cant repeat it started . and ran like a champ ended up putting that same motor in another fc and that one is still running after 230k on the motor friend has it now. anyway try and get the other rotor compression and see where your at . besides that great find i got my new fc (3rd one) back in may had 60k on a new short block from mazda guy sold it to me for $550 cause he could get it to pass inspection . turn blinker switch was broken . put in a spare on i had got it to pass.. keep us posted on whats going on .

I'm gonna put some MMO in it tommorow... I hear it works just as well as ATF without the smoke.

Of course the problem might be the blown coolant seals themselves...

One thing I noticed was that I think the washer fluid bottle is missing entirely... there are sprayers in the hood but it doesn't spray and I don't see a bottle that says Washer on it *anywhere*

Or maybe because it's a GTU?

Also, according to the previous owners, it didn't have air conditioning, but the compressor is in there! It just doesn't have a belt on it. It also has the control panel on the inside.

One more thing: the radio doesn't work! The CD player works fine but I think the antenna is broken, or maybe I don't know how to get it up...

I also noticed that the coolant level sensor is attached to the harness with about 3 different kinds of wire...wtf is up with that...

I probably need some new wiper blades too...

you're trying to start it with gas that's been sitting for 1/4 of a year or more? even if you added some, the crap that was in there from before isn't gasoline any more.

if it has an internal coolant leak you need to be working on pulling the engine before it's too late and not on starting it!

True enough... I just wanted to see if it would actually run as it is before I tear it apart.
