Question So how bad of a noise was this?

So I am driving along. Stop light, go to acclerate, no first gear, won't go into gear. I knew this couldn't be good. So we drive farther, now 4th gear kicks out when I let out the clutch. NOt good. Little farther, startgin in second every time, ending in 5th (speed limit was 50). Little farther, no more 5th. REALLY BAD. Finally, pull in the parking lot, all most there, 2nd gear...GONE. So now I am running 5000 RPM from a stop to get going since I only have 3rd gear. I park the car and almost **** my pants. Suddenly, 1st AND REVERSE are gone. If I don't hold in the clutch, it's makes the worlds UGLIEST grinding noise. On top of that, I cannot even roll the car (had to change lots, too many parking tickets -- I am stuck at college in case your wondering) with the clutch in or out. What does this mean? I know my tranny broke, but it sounds pretty major. Anyone have a clue what broke?

yeah, sorry man....Really sorry to hear. i'm an expert in this area. I had the exact same problem. I Could bet you money that your input shafts are just gone...welded together. The pilot bearing is making the HORRIBLE racket when you let the clutch put. I got a new tranny, new clutch, new pilot bearing. Sorry man!

I don't to sound like an idiot, but I am no tranny expert. What do you think I should by new? I know I can't get an entire transmission new, so what would you suggest? And, what are the input shafts? I suck at transmission stuff.

Go to the junk yard. Take out the drain plug, see if there is big metallic flake, this is an indication that the tranny has been shifted, and driven hard. If there is just a small amount of metallic flake....like in paint, your good to go. Put some really good tranny fluid in, and your ready to go.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy anything new, total waste of money. Find a wreck at the junkyard with low mileage. DC's got some really solid advice right there, and I just wanna emphasize the good tranny fluid part. Good luck with the replacement!
