Angry so, fill plugs are stuck, and i already drained it

Well, I somewhat stupidly drained my transmission without seeing if i can get the fill plugs out. And now after 3 hours or so I have no idea how I can get them out. Tried the rust penetrating spray, and just beating on it, but no luck. I'm thinking now last time they were put in there was some sort of sealant on them which is now making them stuck. Any ideas?

Put a wrench on it and kick it. If the bolt rounds, weld a nut onto the end or use a nut remover.
Heat the surrounding area's with a torch as well.

The bolts shouldn't strip if you're using the right size socket. I worked in an oil change for years, and we checked every trans that came through. Not once in the 2000 cars I checked could I not get a bolt out.

This is precisely why you should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS remove the fill plug first.

14mm wrench is the right size, might need a pipe to give you leverage.

Been there, done that

To tight for an open end wrench. Here is my solution.

Go to your local hardward store and buy a small pipe wrench. Then, go back in their scrap area and have them cut a length of iron pipe that will just fit around the pipe wrench handle.

Whats cool about this is the harder you turn, the tighter the wrench grabs the bolt.

Very handy "tool" to have around when ever you have a stuck bolt like this.

Good luck.

well, i managed to get the rear one out, but the front one is pretty well stripped. can you fill up the transmission just from the back plug?

yes they both fill the same thing. which one is lower? the front or back? I can't remember. you want to fill it till the lower one starts overfilling. (with the car level)

there is a over flow vent thing on the top of the tranny. so if you over fill it. it'll slowly leak out for a few weeks or so onto your exhaust to smoke and drive way.

filling from the back worked fine (it ended up being the higher plug) so the redline's in and its shifting smoothly. Thanks for all the help.

I want to put in redline, but it's so expensive and I don't have a job . My synchros aren't exactly perfect. Sometimes they are crappy, and sometimes they are great. Doesn't even matter if it's cold or hot or how long I've been driving. I hear good things about redline, so I'll eventually put it in.

Do yourself a favor and go back in a week and add some more oil til it overflows. It's possible that all the passages were not filled up when you used only the one plug to fill. After a week there should have been enough sloshing around to distribute the oil evenly.

I gotta buy me one of those small pipe wrenches some day. Good hintk, at least for me.
