smoking/rebuild

just a few questions here from your everyday person who is confused.1:my 86 non turbo 13b smokes after 5000 rpm even after warmup,is this a condition that gets bad fast,or a slowly degenerative condition? 2.i am planning on doing the ATF trick,to see if i cant lengthen the life of the motor, will this process help the smoking as well? 3.is there ANYthing i could try to calm down the smoke(high mileage oil?,additives?wierd tricks?).and lastly,4.if i took it to a garage that rebuilds rotarys, and had it rebuilt, what would be a ballpark figure on cost? the smoke isnt terribly thick, but bothersome, and im not hardly consuming oil.it is like white-ish grey.and it takes a few seconds over 5 to do it.and it doesnt sputter during it at all.

My friend had this same problem. I couldnt get rid of it no matter what I did. You could try the ATF trick, what can it hurt?

If you rebuild it while its still running, you'll save some money. Once it blows a seal its probably going to trash the rotor and the housing, neither of which are cheap. You can get a rebuild for $1000, assuming nothing inside it trashed. Contact Kevin Landers. his forum name is hypntyz7, and his website is www.rotaryresurrection.com he does rebuilds.

If youre familiar with Columbus, our own Rx7Store is there (on the outskirts anyway). Im sure you can get a motor from them (they dont rebuild, but they can get rebuilds from other companies). Talk to Jason. Their number is 614-771-8966

you might consider purchasing your own rebuild kit if your taking it to a mechanic. they might buy a more expensive rebuild kit than what your looking to spend. check out www.atkinsrotary.com there good.
