Oil o-rings under the oil filter pedastle? That's the only thing I can think of that would drip oil onto something that would smoke (hot block), except the pressure sender. If it were a busted line spewing oil, I think you'd know it, so my guess is the o-rings.

The pedistal holds the oil filter. I am replacing the two "O" rings (there are two) today/tomorrow and the oil pressure sender while I am at it. Leak in that area but no smoke. like you.

Get the "O" rings at Mazda dealer part # 9954-10-1601.
Go to (I don't know how to insert link) www.haxxOr.net/car/rx7/oil_ring. He did a step by step with photos on how to. Looks real simple.

Good luck

I agree with Silk, probally the oil filter leaking around the pedistal. The o-rings are like $5, and it appears to be a VERY easy fix.

Ok I found where the oil is leaking from the Oil pan the gasket is shot!... Now the smoke appears to comming from the oil filter! but the ring on the filter is 100% what else could be causing this? It seems to come from ther or somewhere really close! Ok on my car there are the two spark plugs.. then dirrectly above the ones the the front there is a bolt with a wire attached.. and the one to the rear there is simply a threaded hole there is nothing in eather of the service manuals. Does anybody know what these are for?

No no no no..

Ok. Remove the oil filter. The ring on the oil filter has nothing to do with it. The pedastal sits there, with the threaded hole. If you look UNDER that, you can see two 10mm nuts (one holds on a wire loom holder).

Remove those nuts. You will then be able to take the pedastal off of the block. Two rubber o-rings seal the pedastal to the block. Replace those o-rings.
