Well I just finished putting the 91 dash on my 88 gxl. I kept the 88 wire harness and speedo cluster. I did try and use the 91 speed surround peice that has the blinkers and hazards etc. When I put the battery back to it and tried to start it it did nothing I heard a sound from the sunroof unit which was weird. So the key is still on so I try to turn the headlights on they would move up but not give light also i dont know if this is connected or coincidence but smoke came from under the dash when I turned on the head lights. The hazards would flash the lights but the blinkers wouldnt work off of the switch and when i tried the parking lights there was none and there was also no dash lights. So process of elimination I put the old 88 speedo suround back on and it eliminated the starting problem the headlight problem the smoke idk but it didnt come back anyway i think i didnt tape up some loose wires that i had going to the radio that might of been the cause of the smoke. BUT still no dash lights and no parking lights and also my blinkers dont work. Im hoping that the cause of those problems are just a blown fuse but im not sure any help would be appreciated.

 

The s5 cluster is not a plug and play unit into an S4.. you have to change wires around and actually this post was just talked about recently by rx7mfn. And yes you did blow a fuse its called the illumination fuse 20 amp. -gabe

 

WONDERFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. ha so that fuse will take car of the dash lights parking lights? I dont see how it would make the blinkers work but idk. But thats great news.

 

No, you cannot just change the fuse and fix everything. It will blow again. You need to get the correct harness, and/or rearange the connections on the plugs so that everything will match up.
