Smoke on random startup

Ive had my 89 GTUs for a few months now. Ive driven it almost every day, and i have seen absolutely no smoke during warm up (and i let it fully warm up which takes almost 10 minutes) I let it sit for a few days, and then when i started it up, and a lot of smoke came out for less than 10 seconds. I had no problems with it that day or any day since during startup and it runs very well from what i can feel and from what my friend tells me who is somewhat familar with fc's but i just wanted some more input. I dont know a lot about these cars so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

i dont remember. It was a lot of smoke. My garage door to the house was open and it filled my downstairs with smoke and set off the smoke alarm. My car also generally starts up around 1k rpm. Sometimes it will start up around 3500 and stay there for 10 seconds or so. Is this a normal startup process and why does it only happen once in a while? Thanks again!

That 3500 is the Accelerated Warmup System. It's completly normal.

Many high mileage RX-7s will dump a lot of smoke at startup if it hasn't been started for 3 or more days (give or take). If you start it everyday you would never see it.

So, my guess is that it is gas, coolant, or oil is pooling in the engine over a few days, then when you start it, it is all burned at once. In all the years, I haven't noticed any missing coolant, so I would eliminate that. My oil consumption is relatively good so I think it is most likely fuel from a sticking injector? One day I need to get them cleaned and see if the smoke signals stop.

When mine has been siting that long, I typically will start it and wait till the smoke clears, then drive off easy.

If you don't run it hard while it is warming up, you won't see the smoke driving. But if you are a little enthusiastic and the car is not yet warm, it will probably smoke when you accelerate through a gear and then let off.
